The Network Management organization drives the speed, ship cost, inventory positioning, and capacity goals for Wayfair’s North America network, encompassing CastleGate Fulfillment, Wayfair Delivery Network, and Dropship. This organization was conceived to solve the challenging, cross-functional problems that are plentiful in a complex and flexible supply chain, and coordinate across groups to ensure that strategies, metrics, and goals are aligned. 

Within Network Management, the Yard Management team oversees the physical yard in our fulfillment centers (FC) and home delivery operation (HDO) sites. The Yard team is at the forefront of ensuring outcomes to two key stakeholders of the Wayfair supply chain - the supplier and the customer. The yard is highly dynamic in nature at the intersection of the supplier inventory (inbound) and the customer orders (outbound). It is a shared asset between the FCs, The Wayfair Delivery Network, the carrier network and the HDOs and offers immense opportunities for optimization that touch the lives of millions of Wayfair’s customers.

Wayfair is looking for a driven, analytical leader with proven experience in scripting and driving change in complex growth supply chain operations, driving organizational change, and championing innovative thinking to drive Yard Management for North America.

A successful Head of Yard Management will collaboratively work with Fulfillment Centers, Transportation,  Partner Operations, and Supply Chain Technology to :

  • Define yard management policy (e,g appointment booking, drop off window, prioritization, dwell time, chargebacks, ground rent etc.) for both internal (FC,HDO etc.) and external (supplier, carrier, dray etc.) stakeholders
  • Define the metrics, KPIs, thresholds and establish governance to drive improvements and outcomes quarterly
  • Evolve the organization structure of both the corporate and site functions to achieve the outcomes
  • Own the relationship with 3rd party services (e.g. yard shunters) and improve performance with weekly, monthly and quarterly reviews. Drive the renegotiations of contracts periodically 
  • Drive continuous improvement for operational efficiency with process, analytics, strategy and technology development
  • Manage the day to day functioning of the yard in close partnership with the site leadership
  • Develop an ambitious technology roadmap for appointment booking, supplier engagement, capacity management, operational yard management, site operations engagement together with the product and technology teams to build long term capability for the Wayfair supply chain
  • Drive step change outcomes by employing the latest analytical methods (optimization, simulation etc.) to vexing problems in scheduling, prioritization, labor management and contracts
  • Develop strong partnerships with other leaders in the supply chain in partner operations, fulfillment center, transportation, ocean operations and product teams to regularly challenge status quo and drive end to end optimization

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or a Supply Chain/Operations discipline
  • MBA or equivalent Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in operations, technology, consulting, strategy or finance, preferably with diverse experience
  • Proven track record of leadership, taking ownership and driving results
  • Experience managing and executing large projects from start to finish including project management, data gathering and modeling, problem solving and communicating recommendations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Senior presence; able to clearly and consistently partner with a broad range of levels and functions to achieve objectives
  • Proficiency with SQL and ability to analyze large data sets to deliver clear, actionable insights
