The Algorithms team at Wayfair creates decision frameworks, data artifacts and tools to effectively guide business strategies and decision-making across Wayfair. These algorithms leverage best-in-class approaches across machine learning, economics and statistics to drive high business impact. We are hiring a senior manager to lead the Cost Economics team. The team mission is to drive efficient trade-offs between product availability, delivery speed and operating cost to make effective supply chain decisions across Wayfair and its suppliers. These two groups make up the Cost Economics team:

  • Cost Economics

The Cost Economics team is focused on driving and improving COGS estimation accuracy via a suite of modeling approaches with forward-looking emphasis towards event-reactive, transparent models. These efforts drive business objectives of strong supplier incentive structures and profit maximization. Foundational to these efforts, Cost Economics Engineering aims to develop a suite of tools that will help all pricing algorithms teams develop, deploy, and maintain models more quickly and efficiently.

  • Finance Algorithms

Finance Algorithms Engineering owns the suite of algorithms known as EGM (Expected Gross Margin), which provides a forecast of post-order profit leveraged by decision-makers and algorithms throughout the company. The newly formed team is tasked with maintenance and upgrades to EGM in addition to integrating predictive algorithms into the daily ledger of the Financial System. Once developed this enhanced system for profit forecasts will serve as the single source of truth throughout the company and be vended by the Margin Service.

What You'll Do

  • Lead one or more dev teams of strong, engaged engineers. Manage, mentor and coach team members at multiple career levels
  • Partner as a thought leader with your product and data science peers to define the vision for your platform and build the roadmap for your team
  • Execute and own all aspects of software development for your team – design, development and deployment
  • Use depth and breadth of technical expertise to ensure platforms being built are scalable, maintainable and extensible
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and drive to improve all aspects of the team and platform - whether it's making process improvements or rearchitecting the platform for the next level of scale and operability

What You'll Need

  • B.S. or equivalent experience in computer science/related field
  • Experience making architectural and design-related decisions for large scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market vs. flexibility.
  • Experience hiring and mentoring junior and senior engineers across levels
  • Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike
