Head of Carrier Management and Relations

A key part of our success is building strong partnerships with service providers in the very complex E2E ocean supply chain. Such as Ocean and Dray Carriers, Container Freight Stations, etc. Hiring the right carriers is not only a cost-based decision - it’s finding the partners that can perform and scale with us.

We are looking for a driven individual who is an experienced negotiator with ocean and dray carrier, is adept at engaging internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization, is a sharp analytical thinker with a data-driven approach to solving problems, and someone who will flourish in a role with considerable autonomy and visibility.

 

What You'll Do

  • Oversee and lead the teams completing ocean and dray carrier RFPs and sourcing events from beginning to end, managing a cross-functional team to achieve objectives in a timely manner.
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with providers.
  • Establish KPIs and benchmarking against industry standards
  • Work cross-functionally across all Transportation teams to ensure partners are chosen and integrated with an optimal approach.
  • Maintain relationships with our carrier partners. Explore new opportunities and ways in which we can work together.
  • Discover carriers who are complementary to our mission.
  • Create and drive procurement strategy and vision for routine requests from our Operations team.
  • Analyze risk and perform risk management of carrier partners.

 

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree, plus 4+ years of experience in International Ocean Supply Chain and Procurement.
  • Experience negotiating global ocean contracts exceeding 50,000 containers per year with a BCO and/or NVOCC.
  • Strong relationships with partners in the three major ocean alliances.
  • Ability to lead a team with diverse experience and support their career growth.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly scaling environment where strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities are a must.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees.
  • Articulate and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal – you are approachable, confident and enthusiastic. You communicate detailed processes in a simple and concise manner making information easy to understand and engaging at all levels.
  • An ability to hit the ground running and learn quickly; a confident self-starter.
  • Detail-oriented and organized – you have an eye for detail and remember to cross your "T's" and dot your "I's."
  • Flexible and quick on your feet. You can quickly readjust the strategy.
  • Execution – you have a strong ability to make a plan come to life with a creative approach quickly.
  • Microsoft Office and Google Suite Expert
