The team is responsible for liaising with suppliers & internal stakeholders, such as category managers and supplier operations to ensure that all invoices are compliant, good quality and processed for payment. To ensure a seamless customer experience, the team handles payments to suppliers to ensure that orders are being processed and are ready to be delivered to our customers. Due to an in-house built system, the team can consistently implement new enhancements and updates. 

Being an Intern in Wayfair’s Finance team 

Here is some information on what you may do depending on which team you join through supporting one or more of our financial teams with their work.

Accounts Payable Team:

  • Working with senior members of the team, you will be responsible for managing the Accounts Payable process either in the Product or Non-Product teams.  
  • Update vender cost data and cost status updates 
  • Assist in the preparation of daily payment runs to vendors for wire transfer or credit card payment
  • Ensure the deduction of agreed discounts, allowances & rebates
  •  Follow up with vendors/suppliers at month end to collect credits/credit notes due but not received.
  • Monthly reconciliations of vendor payments to open invoices; Review vendor statements and follow-up
  • Respond to vendor  email and phone queries on a timely basis in line with SLA’s

Payroll  team

  • Assist with compliance work around VAT & Intrastat reporting; ensure the relevant VAT Team controls are completed in a timely manner each month 
  • Dealing with various taxation consultancy/tax planning assignments as they arise
  • Assist with ad-hoc audit queries and requests 
  • Assist with GL account reconciliations at month-end
  • Assist with Payroll tickets for both Ireland and UK employees
  • Assist with monthly Payroll submission
  • Prepare monthly Invoice breakdown for benefits invoices
  • Assist with Payroll related audit queries

Accounts Receivable Team: 

  • You will be the sole owner of one of our European Bank Reconciliations, making sure that all transactions including deposits and supplier payments are correctly recorded in our General Ledger on a daily basis
  • Liaise with our payment processors - Klarna, Barclays, Worldpay, Stripe, PayPal - on any queries concerning customer deposits or settlements
  • Solve any variances between transactions transmitted by payment processors and transactions recorded in our orders
  • Work with engineering teams to optimize our internal tools and processes, eg. working towards one of our team goals of reducing the Month Close timeline
  • Reflect charged back payments in our systems

What You'll Need

  • Fluency in German language;
  • Pragmatic approach to problem-solving;
  • Proficiency in SQL; some experience with automation scripting (Excel VBA or Python or R);
  • Ability to Identify most efficient ways to complete assigned tasks;
  • Desire to always learn, and a collaborative team-player attitude;
  • Knowledge & experience of Excel, Excel Data Model, Power Query advantageous;
  • Previous experience in accounting, financial modelling is an advantage but not essential;
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business or Finance; 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; 
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Self-motivated individual; passionate about your work and always aiming to improve processes; 
  • An ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure that deadlines are consistently met;
