Lead Product Manager – Transportation 

The mission of the Transportation Costs & Freight Rate team is to simplify access, management, analysis and tracking (auditing) of transportation costs across Wayfair. The core entity of this space is Wayfair’s contracts with its carriers, on which basis the most cost effective carrier is selected for each delivery. We enable Operations teams to continually reconcile past predicted cost performance with actuals e.g. to help prepare for carrier contract re-negotiation. We calculate and expose shipping costs at all stages in the order journey: storefront product cost calculation, customs calculation, carrier selection, and post-delivery cost optimization. The Transportation Costs team is part of the Wayfair Global Carrier Platform, responsible for selecting the best carrier for every Wayfair shipment and providing visibility at all stages of the delivery journey. Our scope includes end-to-end 3rd party parcel carriers, truckload carriers belonging to the Wayfair Delivery Network, and shipping / drayage as part of Wayfair’s international supply chain.

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to partner with our Carrier Management, Carrier Procurement, Finance, and International Supply Chain teams to identify business needs & implement solutions to allow Wayfair to efficiently manage shipping costs and contracts. You will be responsible for engaging with Operations leaders and carriers to define, build, and maintain a set of tools and interfaces which drive lower transportation costs measured by $ / mile, while supporting a tremendous amount of growth in products moving through our network year over year. 

Your mission is to drive the vision for the Transportation Costs product area, and to work with your engineering partners to consistently delivery products that are aligned to this vision. The ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, is willing to explore multiple ideas and can quickly pivot based on new findings/shifting business priorities. Additionally you should have excellent communication skills and be effective at selling your ideas to a senior management audience. 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Develop a deep understanding of Wayfair’s logistics network and the technologies/applications that power the network 
  • Create a product vision and strategy that advances our business goals and 
  • Translate our product vision and strategy into a well-sequenced roadmap, and ensure that our roadmap evolves as we learn and adjust our business goals 
  • Work closely with senior leaders across the organization to ensure the vision aligns with broader company objectives
  • Manage and execute on large scale projects that will build complex data models/algorithms and reporting applications/tool sets that provide valuable insights to carrier network managers and operational leadership across the company 
  • Disseminate regular updates to key stakeholders and leadership, by using multiple channels of communication 
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to define, monitor and communicate KPIs for your product area in order to continually improve our product in ways that matter most to our users
  • Utilize data to understand the scope, impact and priority of our business objectives, and enable the team to transform that knowledge into system enhancements and new features

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years experience in Product Management with a demonstrated track record, preferably in a large eCommerce or retail environment. 
  • 3+ years’ experience successfully leading and developing highly effective teams and engaging with external stakeholders
  • BA with strong academic record (strong preference for quantitative, scientific, or technical backgrounds), MBA preferred
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically while managing through ambiguity, adversity and conflict to establish focus and deliver against business goals.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building functional and engaging user experiences
  • Examples of success in aligning a vision, strategy and execution across different functional organizations in highly matrixed environments with the ability to think and perform tactically and strategically
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated experience turning data into actionable insights
  • Experience building Supply Chain/Logistics applications is highly desirable
