Manager, Scam Prevention

The scam prevention team at Wayfair is responsible for developing and deploying scam prevention and mitigation strategies.  The team is looking for an analyst who will drive the functional buildout and ramp-up of the new scam prevention team within Wayfair, while supporting the day-to-day operations of the front line teams reviewing suspected scam cases.

As a Manager on Operational Insights & Readiness, you’ll be tasked to drive strategy development for scam prevention by supporting efforts to identify scam, analyze historical scam data to propose scam intervention initiatives, support execution of those initiatives, and support the day-to-day operations of a 60+ person team that is charged with identifying and managing cases of suspected scam.

This is a unique role in Wayfair that operates at the intersection of several different functional teams including Customer Service, Finance, Returns Operations, Incident Prevention, Fraud, Transportation, and Strategy & Analytics.  If blank slates, entrepreneurial environments, test and learn cultures, and being empowered to prioritize and make decisions that drive massive impact sounds fun we encourage you to apply!

What you’ll do

  • Analyze large data sets to identify historical scam and develop initiatives to mitigate exposure
  • Translate high-level business problems into more specific questions that can be answered through data analyses; leverage analytical findings to identify actionable business recommendations
  • Partner across geographies to ensure initiatives are tailored to each geography (US, CA, EU)
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure we are developing analytically rigorous models, or as appropriate partnering with 3rd parties, on scam identification and execution
  • Exercise good judgement on when to pivot or stand firm on initiatives and do so with resilience and persistence
  • Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives for the front line scam prevention teams
  • Coach and develop junior colleagues across the team

What you’ll need

  • 2+ years of experience in an analytical/consulting role with experience analyzing data
  • A degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or other concentrations with heavy quantitative focus strongly preferred
  • Experience working with large datasets and resourcefulness in obtaining data when clean and or complete information is not available
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to effectively convey insights from analyses to senior leaders
  • Ability to drive complex projects to completion using effective project management, communication, and influence; strong ownership of tasks/deadlines/projects
  • High proficiency in MS Excel and Office; SQL or other programming languages a plus
  • A tenacious, entrepreneurial and ownership mindset
  • A strong desire to see the team around you thrive
  • A ‘get stuff done’ mentality with a highly collaborative behavior
  • An insatiable appetite to understand “why” something is the way it is
