L2 Operations Assistant Manager - Job description

Overview: The International Supply Chain (ISC) team is looking for a Operations Assistant Manager to lead the logistics coordination of freight from the destination port to the Fulfillment Center. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily planning and execution of freight pickup operations, working with the teams’ business partners to help standardize operational processes. You will also be leading the process of working with the leadership team in identifying operational challenges, as well as helping to drive for creative solutions.

Who we are: The International Supply Chain is a team of highly driven and self-motivated individuals who are working in a fast-paced and fast-growing environment (we grew +5X from 2018 to 2020). Our goal is to manage and drive operational efficiencies within the inbound space by working cross-functionally with teams within CastleGate, Logistics, and Engineering. We are continuing to grow our business by servicing more suppliers and providing new service offerings.

What is CastleGate? CastleGate is a rapidly growing business unit within Wayfair. It encompasses Wayfair’s storage and fulfillment operations. We are looking for highly motivated individuals to help expand this business – which is focused on providing strategic supply chain services to key suppliers.

In this role you will:

Leadership role

  • Be responsible for overseeing over the operational performance for a specific part of the freight drayage system.
  • Coach and develop other planners supporting your team.
  • Lead the identification, planning coordination and execution of operational improvements.
  • Provide peer coaching and guidance for day to day operations.

Planning role

  • Coordinate across carriers, ports, and warehouses to ensure consistent transit time and reduce spend.
  • Facilitate carrier onboarding and manage carrier relationships
  • Identify operational trends that will drive initiatives for process improvement.
  • Work with various teams, such as CastleGate Operations, Account Managers, Carrier Performance and more, to ensure that items communicated to suppliers are consistent and initiatives are properly prioritized.
  • Keep an open line of communication with the team’s business partners to ensure problems that arise follow the proper escalation path.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to work with data (comfort running database queries using SQL, GBQ, or others is a plus but not required).
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, specifically excel.
  • Strong administrative skills, ability to prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Problem solving mindset with strict attention to detail.
  • Previous experience working with cross functional teams.
  • Experience with Cargowise, IES/Descartes or a similar NVOCC platform is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Transportation is a plus but not required.
