 Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct user research and propose design solutions to meet the needs of artists, vendors, and pipeline operators responsible for Wayfair’s asset development
  • Test, evaluate, and refine designs, including low-to-hi fidelity screens and prototypes, to help tell the story of what needs to be created by your engineering partners
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to execute design concepts that deliver on business goals and are technically feasible to implement
  • Communicate design findings to broad groups consisting of partners, stakeholders, and international vendors
  • Own your designs, lead projects from start to finish, and be responsible for the processes and results
  • Champion design and our users throughout the department by familiarizing the team with design concepts, language, patterns, and user needs

What you'll need: 

  • Able to employ several research methods (user interviews, testing, etc.) to identify gaps and create better products
  • Provide clarity by flexing into ambiguous or unknown territories to guide and prioritize development efforts in an iterative manner
  • Challenge the status quo when it best suits the user, push for quality design decisions over short-term solutions, and meet restrictions with creativity
  • Have a portfolio showcasing your best design work (case studies, prototypes, 3D work, etc.)

Nice to Haves:

  • A background working with CG/imagery production pipelines and software to better inform the design of inter-connected platforms
  • Eastern Standard Time preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of programming languages/concepts to communicate effectively between design and engineering
  • Comfortable with creating training documentation and videos for workflows and tools

 

About Merch Tech

Merch Technology is a diverse, cross-functional team responsible for producing high-quality product images for Wayfair’s catalog, including for print and websites. Every month we produce thousands of images to meet the growing demand of our suppliers. These images and scenes are meticulously designed by expert 3D Artists and Art Directors. As a Product Designer on this team, you will collaborate with our team to design and iterate on our state-of-the-art software. In Merch Tech, we are looking for someone who will understand and champion our users’ best interests, flex with the needs of production deadlines and engineering capacity, and help develop Catalog Media’s long-term vision from a design perspective. We rely on data to drive our decision-making and planning, and we need design leadership that will participate in the creation and use of that data. You’ll own key projects and be involved from start to finish. You’ll have opportunities to recommend direction, set design strategy and guidelines, and will be regularly working with our stakeholders to ensure the quality of results.
