Who We Are:

The Category Management team helps to build the long-term vision for all of Wayfair, while broadcasting out the set of objectives that are most important to the success of each category. As a Senior Category Manager for UK upholstery, you would be owning one of our biggest businesses - solving complex problems across merchandising, operations, marketing, and pricing to achieve hyper growth. Being a part of Category Management means you enjoy setting and driving a vision and operating analytically to get results, whilst keeping a hard focus on execution of high impact tasks for your team and yourself. Strong communication is critical for the success of Category Management given the interaction with almost every function and team at Wayfair to ensure alignment is tight and priorities are agreed upon. Externally, we manage supplier relationships, partnering to build sustainable e-commerce strategies with industry leading players and supporting them in their execution. Strong and extensive negotiation skills are a must in our every day job.

We are looking for a Berlin based Senior Category Manager to lead our strong UK upholstery team and foster further growth. You are an experienced, entrepreneurial, data driven leader who can work well cross functionally, develop a high performing team, build and articulate the strategic vision, and develop impactful relationships with Wayfair’s supplier base.

What You'll Do:

  • Own the P&L for our UK upholstery business
  • Develop and manage category strategy in alignment with Wayfair business goals
  • Analyse supplier and category performance to determine tactical next steps and strategic vision for your team and internal counterparts
  • Manage and develop a team of Supplier Relationship Managers
  • Manage a portfolio of suppliers within the category, driving supplier development by setting strategic goals, fiercely negotiating business terms and reviewing performance
  • Negotiate frequently with existing suppliers to optimise performance and cost base, including everyday pricing, annual incentive programs, advertising programs and promotions
  • Be a senior internal and external escalation point, often involving negotiations with C-suite members from our external partners
  • Identify commercial, operational and merchandising opportunities for the category and collaborate with internal teams to drive change
  • Collaborate across departments to drive category goals, including Supply-Chain, Pricing, Merchandising, Supplier Operations, PR, Customer Service and Business Intelligence

What You'll Need

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English is required; additional European languages are a plus
  • Graduate degree in a STEM or Business related discipline
  • Extensive management experience
  • Ability to hit the ground running - be a confident, entrepreneurial, hands-on self-starter that is a relentless ROI-driven executor whilst never losing sight of the big picture and strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Analytical mindset and data-driven approach: experience working with complex data and root-causing opportunities to develop ROI driven robust commercial recommendations
  • Innovative problem-solving skills; dissecting problems and implementing solutions
  • A successful track record of developing relationships with internal stakeholders working collaboratively and negotiating to drive multi-departmental projects.
  • Track record of fiercely leading successful commercial negotiations with external partners, whilst maintaining sustainable relationships.
  • Advanced level Excel. SQL, PowerBI, Tableau are a plus
  • Experience in an eCommerce, start-up or management consulting environment preferred
