Senior Manager,  Wayfair Freight

You will lead a team that is responsible for creating the key processes required for successful  planning + execution of First Mile transportation from our 30,000+ suppliers nationwide into the Wayfair Delivery Network. This includes design, analysis & implementation of processes for carrier capacity planning, routing & on the road execution.

The goal of the role is to create & implement the strategy needed to drive continuous improvement to First Mile transportation performance. Key areas of focus will be on improving on-time carrier pickup, refining First Mile routing + resource planning models to achieve optimal cost savings & creating the processes needed to reduce on the road exceptions

This role is highly cross functional working with several teams across the Supply Chain ecosystem including Partner Operations, Network Design, Field Operations, Carrier Management, Operations Research, Finance & Supply Chain Tech. 

Examples of work streams this individual will lead are:

  • Optimizing routing + capacity planning models for First Mile supplier pick-ups
  • Designing & piloting new processes for improved reliability of supplier pick-ups 
  • Deploying new First Mile technology platforms to Field Operations

We are looking for individuals who have experience leading teams in a fast paced environment & have a proven track record of executing with urgency while in parallel managing expectations with relevant internal & external stakeholders.

The KPIs of success for this team are centered around reliability & cost efficiency including 1) on-time carrier pickup performance from our suppliers, 2) on-time carrier delivery into the Wayfair Delivery Network & 3) First Mile driver efficiency.  

What You'll Do 

  • Create & implement a cross functional strategy + roadmap for the First Mile transportation space that focuses on continuous improvement of cost & reliability 
  • Manage & develop 3-4 direct reports who will be responsible for driving workstreams to improve processes for First Mile capacity planning, routing & on the road exception management  
  • Coach direct reports to develop efficient analytical processes for scoping gaps + opportunities, measuring progress of projects & outlining proposals for new initiatives 
  • Provide weekly, monthly & quarterly updates to senior leadership on First Mile performance + manage quarterly goal setting for First Mile cost & reliability KPIs 
  • Drive cross functional partnerships to ensure teams are bought in & aligned on the goals within the First Mile transportation space   
  • Identify & prioritize key opportunities within the First Mile space by clearly outlining trades offs for all options & outlining requirements for implementation of processes that will drive improved performance 
  • Identify & outline the requirements for the tools + tech needed to enable performance improvements within the space in collaboration with Tech partners 

What You'll Need 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a Supply Chain/Operations discipline
  • 4-5+ years of experience in supply chain, retail, consulting, strategy or finance
  • Track record of success in managing & developing a team specializing in analytics + program management  
  • Strong analytical & critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, GBQ and/or other programming languages
  • Strategic thinking to build a structure, roadmap, & measurements of success around loosely defined projects
  • Resourcefulness in obtaining data & creating processes when clean and/or complete information is not available
  • Ability to pivot projects as new information becomes available to best adapt to broader Supply Chain goals 
  • Proven success in demonstrating a strong sense of ownership to see cross functional projects through to completion 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-reliant and able to motivate others
  • Thoughtful, articulate communication style adaptable to the audience
