Sr. Product Design Manager, Stores - App (Specialty Retail Brands)

We’re tackling a wide array of fascinating, incredibly difficult problems - like helping a massive, rapidly growing global customer base efficiently find the perfect products from our catalog of >22M items, building a 2-sided marketplace to connect consumers with interior designers and contractors, and leveraging A/R and Computer Vision to help customers visualize products in their space. We have a modern tech stack including sophisticated capabilities around AI, data science, multivariate testing and personalization. What You’ll Do:

As a Sr. Product Design Manager for our Specialty Retail Brands, you’ll work with teams across Wayfair to strategize and design bespoke app experiences for our most loyal and engaged specialty retail shoppers. You’ll lead design strategy and craft easy-to-use and delightful experiences for customer-facing app experiences for shoppers of AllModern, Joss & Main, and Birch Lane. This role will be immersed in our brands and influence the evolution of the app design system. As a manager, you’ll guide the work of specialty retail and app designers. 

You are skilled in digital product design, endlessly curious about customers’ passions, needs, and pain points, and love turning quantitative and qualitative findings into insights to drive product strategy. 

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead design strategy for iOS and Android apps for specialty retail brands AllModern, Joss & Main, and Birch Lane
  • Drive meaningful and scalable differentiation for each of our branded apps: Learn how each of our target specialty markets differs from the core Wayfair business; Become a go-to expert and specialty retail customer advocate
  • Design for the distinct needs and expectations of each brand’s customers with user research, brand insights, data analytics, and competitive analysis as your guides 
  • Directly manage multiple specialty and luxury designers; Mentor & collaborate across content strategy and user research
  • Collaborate with our design systems team to identify and design enhancements to our app design library to serve specialty retail customers and differentiate brands
  • Partner with our Specialty Retail physical stores on omni-channel app experiences
  • Support adaptation of our apps for international customers: Partner with our International Expansion team as our brands are introduced to new markets 
  • Tailor app experiences for parity with relevant new web features
  • Actively collaborate with the data analysts, engineers, QA specialists, product managers, content strategy, and UX research on product strategy and execution 
  • Champion best practices and promote the team's strategy to the larger organization, offering guidance, documentation, and socialization than enables quality at scale

 

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience designing for iOS and Android apps
  • Experience using or influencing branded libraries/guides
  • Visual design sensibilities
  • Communication, persuasion, and facilitation skills; effectively follow design processes and communicate the value of design; You tailor your presentation for the audience
  • Experience in management of multiple stakeholders, positive approach in collaboration across teams
  • Excellent self-direction, can take a large, ambiguous problem, chart a course, and execute against identified deliverables
  • Complex problem solving, high analytical ability
  • Skills in current design tools like Figma, Sketch, Invision, Framer, Abstract, and Creative Suite
  • An online portfolio of case studies highlighting some or all of:
    • Demonstration of full design process, including numerous diverse artifacts (ex. research, flows, sketches, wires, low- and high-fidelity designs) 
    • Meticulous attention to detail, high-quality UX design craft
    • Use of branded design systems
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Architecture, or related field
  • 8+ years of professional UX experience
