Wayfair believes everyone should live in a home they love. Through technology and innovation, Wayfair makes it possible for shoppers to quickly and easily find exactly what they are looking for from a selection of more than 15 million products.

Merchandising Engineering exists at the heart of Wayfair's e-commerce operations. We are platform and service builders who own the infrastructure and product data that support merchandising strategies and power Wayfair's vast product catalog. Our mission is to create stable, scalable, and flexible infrastructure that allows Wayfair to optimally merchandise every product our customers see. The Custom & Complex Products team builds a growing array of cutting-edge, highly scalable services that support critical operations to enable highly configurable and made-to-order products, personalized site experiences, and advanced logistics.

What You'll Do:

  • Act as the Senior Product Manager for Custom & Complex Products, leading the product strategy and roadmap for all initiatives in this space within Catalog Engineering.
  • Envision and guide the creation of new technical capabilities that allow teams across the Wayfair ecosystem to expand support for Custom and Complex products. Many of these products (such as made-to-order upholstery, custom-framed wall art, configurable interior closets, and more) possess tens of thousands (and sometimes millions/billions) of uniquely sellable variations creating significant operational, merchandising, and logistical complexity.
  • Lead problem scoping and discovery across multiple functional areas, drive requirements synthesis, and facilitate prioritization to determine how Wayfair should invest and implement a holistic vision for catalog infrastructure to optimally support and scale Complex products.
  • Act with a high degree of autonomy and ownership, creating strong relationships with senior cross-functional leaders (both technical and non-technical), establishing a shared vision for success, and delivering results that create meaningful business impact.
  • Be a clear communicator who drives coordination and collaboration within the team, with cross-functional partners, and with upstream/downstream stakeholders.
  • Make strategic trade-offs between technical and business needs; find pragmatic solutions that balance technical needs against speed-to-value tasks in an agile environment.
  • Collaborate to build consensus and sell change through persuasive data, logic, and delivery of information. Mentor team members in your sprint team and across the department.
  • This is a senior individual contributor role.

What You'll Need:

  • 6+ years of product management or comparable experience in an agile development environment; exposure to relevant product areas preferred (eCommerce or B2C; SaaS platforms; Enterprise application experience)
  • Ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument and recommendations in a well-structured, data-informed, written format
  • Experience successfully driving large, technical, cross-functional product initiatives with significant business impact
  • Strong baseline technical knowledge or technical orientation; very comfortable getting into the details, learning and working with engineers to implement new technologies (top-tier programming languages, SQL vs. NoSQL databases, API technologies, event-streaming, etc.)
  • Superior analytical skills with hypothesis-driven problem solving and turning data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills playing a lead role in cross-functional initiatives; ability to establish strong partnerships with peers and senior leaders, effectively setting expectations, managing conflict, and creating buy-in for recommendations
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics, economics) or equivalent practical experience
