The EU Carrier team are currently hiring for Senior Software Engineers across three teams, the WDN, Global Carrier Platform and Global Transportation Services teams.

WDN 4 Walls team, the team responsible for the systems that enable our delivery network warehouse operations. As part of our team, you will be solving complex problems that have a direct and salient impact on our supply chain operations and end-customers.

Global Carrier Platform is a team based in Berlin with a global responsibility: to build a best-in-class infrastructure to support Wayfair’s demanding needs for carrier integration as it grows in order volume and expands to new geographies, providing a seamless experience to every system and team that requires any kind of interaction with the carrier world.

Global Transportation Services is a global team distributed across multiple locations (United States, United Kingdom and Germany) focusing on building best in class transportation services supporting a superior customer delivery experience by enabling the planning, execution, and tracking of freight movement optimized across reliability, speed and cost for all parcel sizes, miles, modes, and geographic locations. As part of this team, you will be focusing on enhancing our end to end supply chain, while contributing to Load Planning, Global Freight Network, Global Customs, and Network Operations.

For these roles, we need senior software engineers that will influence our software architecture and their peers to drive advancement initiatives within their team to improve our systems, practices, business. You will be working in a results-oriented team that highly values good collaboration and autonomy. The tech stack includes PHP, Python, React, Typescript, a mix of REST and Kafka interfaces, RDBMs, Aerospike, and K8s among others. And will be incorporating other technologies as the platform evolves.

The Role

  • Lead high impact projects 
  • Manage value, complexity, and risk.
  • Partner with your business stakeholders, providing them transparency, data, and resources to make informed decisions
  • Build web-based services and products that are robust and scalable
  • Nurture an innovative engineering culture and support the growth of your teammates
  • Solve a wide range of challenging business problems that extend the competitive advantage that separates Wayfair from other online retailers
  • Work on a diverse group of systems that covers everything in the web stack
  • Work with several large and complex SQL databases and queries
  • Develop algorithms to streamline back end business workflow
  • Contribute to architectural and code review discussions impacting our engineering ecosystem

You have

  • Effective communication skills
  • Goal-oriented, collaborative, pragmatic, and continuous improvement  mindset
  • Significant experience working as a Software Engineer
  • Significant experience working with relational databases
  • Knowledge of HTTP and web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience working with event-driven architectures, DDD, and TDD
  • Abstract thinking skills
  • Experience and desire to work in an agile environment
  • Interest in being challenged in a fast-paced environment while having fun
  • Analytical and creative mindset and passion for solving business problems with technology
  • Ability to quickly translate business requirements into working features
  • Ability to break down complex features into small usable parts
