The Algorithms team at Wayfair creates decision frameworks, data artifacts and tools to effectively guide business strategies and decision-making across Wayfair. These algorithms leverage best-in-class approaches across machine learning, economics and statistics to drive high business impact. We are hiring a Senior engineer to help design and build our next generation margin management system encapsulating DS/ML models that help predict metrics at different stages of an order lifecycle. Our Profitability models are the primary driver of our pricing, marketing, recommendations and finance systems.

The ideal candidate for this role is experienced in distributed software systems development with experience building services powered by DS/ML models. You will partner with data science and product teams to evolve our services in the Profitability algorithms space. We leverage a variety of technologies, including Python, GCP, Hive, Spark, Kafka, and Airflow.  You’ll need to become intimate with all of these and drive change as our technology evolves.  

What You’ll Do

  • Leading development of new services using technologies such as Python, Spark, Hadoop, messaging systems like Kafka, and in-memory cache/search technologies like Aerospike and Solr
  • Containerized development using Docker and Kubernetes 
  • Experience with development in Cloud services such as Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (preferred)
  • Owning work through to successful release, including automated testing, monitoring, deployment, and proactive troubleshooting
  • Leading technical projects including project planning
  • Writing robust, well tested code for major team initiatives
  • Working on a team with cross-functional/cross-platform scope, including data scientists, product managers, product associates, and analytics
  • Systems design and optimization

What You’ll Need

  • 5+ years of experience in technical work environment
  • Intuitive sense of how quantitative and technical work aligns closely with business priorities and business value
  • Ability to effectively work with business leads: strong communication skills, ability to synthesize conclusions for non-experts and desire to influence business decisions
  • High comfort level with Python (preferred), or with other languages such Java, C#, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment where there can be degrees of ambiguity
  • Bonus: Machine Learning experience (such as supervised/unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, etc.)
