The Wayfair Fulfillment Network team is responsible for the systems powering dozens of warehouses across multiple countries and continents. Our systems are processing the inbound, storage, and shipping of millions of boxes per month.

We are looking for a passionate engineer who loves to solve complex problems, learns fast, and shares knowledge to join our team in Berlin and help us build and optimize the systems responsible for receiving more than 1MM boxes every month, and store them in the perfect location within more than 4MM square feet of space across our global network of warehouses.

Our tech stack revolves around Java, Spring Boot, React, Android, Kubernetes, GCP, Kafka, and MSSQL.

Your role at Wayfair

  • Be a technical leader within the team you work with
  • Working in a highly collaborative environment interacting closely with other software engineers, product managers, designers, and operations to identify opportunities and implement solutions
  • Hands-on development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following good design and coding practices
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting
  • Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet team and project goals
  • Create proposals and action plans to garner support across the department
  • Influence and contribute to the team’s strategy and roadmap
  • Help grow other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and developing other opportunities for education
  • Continuously rethink and reevaluate the status quo, even when it argues with your/our past ideas

What you bring to the table

  • Experienced in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based, and event-driven systems across various projects
  • Several years of experience with multiple programming languages, Java and PHP are nice to have
  • Deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Experience implementing both asynchronous message-based communication and synchronous ones such as RESTful APIs
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes for build and deployment of various applications
  • Great communication skills and the ability to support technical decision making with the team
  • A track record of delivering in increments and learning as you go
