Who We Are:

We are the Catalog Foundations team, which is the backbone for the Wayfair experience. We are responsible for the enterprise tooling that powers the supplier data collection process and the various levers that create a world-class merchandising experience for our customers. We define, capture, structure, and serve accurate product content, delivering it with appropriate nuance at scale in order to build the best and largest home goods selection.

In Catalog Foundations, we’re looking for someone who can help us push the bounds of how merchandising is achieved within the e-commerce space. As a Product Designer, you will interact with our internal merchandising power-users (and other users) to design and iterate on our state-of-the-art software. You will be specifically focused on providing our internal merchandisers with the ability to create tailored experiences across different types of products (accent pillows vs. refrigerators), geographies (US vs. EU), and Brands (Wayfair vs. Joss & Main) in the most efficient way possible.

Who You Are:

We’re looking for someone who eats, breathes, and dreams design - someone who can leverage core design thinking principles to solve complex problems. You have strong critical thinking skills, consistently testing assumptions without taking things at face value. You can easily put yourself in our users’ shoes, compile data, interpret that data, and visualize it on a screen. You can both advise and take direction from business stakeholders, product managers, and/or engineers, and use your expertise as a designer to transform that feedback into your own vision.

What You’ll Do:

  • Take complex operational processes across the global merchandising org and tie them into a seamless, scalable, and unified interface/experience that will unlock flexibility for teams
  • Own the design strategy for our central merchandising platform in an effort to drive standardization, automation, and testing of merchandising levers
  • Conduct user research and translate findings into actionable, innovative, and scalable solutions, with an eye on speed to value
  • Create effective user personas by becoming a deep expert in the merchandising space, and learn enough about related platforms (e.g. customer and supplier facing technology/processes) to understand all upstream/downstream impact
  • Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and various merchandising teams to create workflows, wireframes, mock ups, and prototypes that are technically feasible to implement
  • Influence and guide the product roadmap by clearly articulating the value of design decisions when collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, adapting your communication style based on the audience and scenario

Example Projects You Will Lead:

  • Optimize the end to end merchandising management experience to increase operational efficiency and improve the quality of our catalog’s descriptive data
  • Partner with individual product teams to design internal tools where merchandisers can manage the collection and presentation of product information

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years of professional UX experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • A portfolio that showcases evidence of your exemplary design thinking approach to solving complex problems
  • Strong skills in, and understanding of, modern design processes and tools, particularly Sketch, Abstract, and Figma, and the use of pre-existing and evolving design systems
  • Passion for building functional and scalable user experiences with a strong user-centric focus
  • Expertise in strategic and creative thinking
  • Ability to keep both the big picture and the details in mind
  • Comfort in navigating ambiguity
  • A proactive mindset, with a passion and curiosity for learning
  • Ample experience in aligning and coordinating across multiple stakeholder groups while balancing/negotiating priorities across teams
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, and comfortably pivot where needed
