The mission of our Competitive Intelligence team is to define, gather, analyze and distribute market intelligence about competitors to enable market-based assessments of Wayfair’s business performance, guide targeted interventions, and track progress filling competitive gaps.  This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with our Competitive Intelligence business partners and design engineering platforms to gather and store a vast amount of competitive information at scale. What You'll Do 

  • Serve as a senior member of the team for a large group of engineers and engineering managers, including mentoring, breaking down work, and guiding implementation 
  • Work cross-functionally with different roles and teams, such as product management, core areas of the business, and other engineering teams to understand the problems we need to solve, and solution against them
  • Help make decisions to drive the technology platform and roadmap for the team to ensure current and future scalability and performance - you’ll be helping us solve some complex architectural problems!
  • Provide high-quality code reviews, propose ideas for technical improvements and scalable architectural designs.
  • Mentor new hires and other engineers to help them become more proficient by example, tech talks, paired programming, and other avenues to increase technical efficiency across the organization.

What You'll Need

  • 5+ years professional experience as a software engineer or related field.
  • Experience in development of new applications using technologies such as Python, Java,.NET, SQL, Google Cloud Services such as Dataflow and Dataproc, messaging systems like Kafka, and in-memory cache technologies like Aerospike.
  • Containerized development using Docker, deployed to Kubernetes within a hybrid of both on-prem (WF's datacenters) and cloud (GCP/Google Cloud Platform) or any other cloud platform AWS or Azure.
  • Experience working with large datasets and different Cloud data storage options.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions with customer experience and scalability on top of mind.
  • Experience developing microservices in highly available and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, leading code reviews, and establishing best engineering practices.
