Who we are looking for

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Software Engineer II to join our Catalog Foundations Expansion Engineering team who would work on solving complex problems and building highly scalable applications. Your impact will drive efforts to tackle some of the most challenging problems we face as we continue to create a best-in-class shopping experience for our customers.

Findability Engineering helps maximize the revenue potential of our Catalog, and make sure that all products Wayfair has invested in are findable to the customer across all properties. To do that, we serve the comprehensive findability information to a spectrum of other engineering teams, build services that are able to detect abnormal and impactful drops from site, and empower fast root causing, and wherever possible, fix drops from site automatically.

What you will do

  • As a senior member of one of the Merchandising Workflow & Services team, you will be working in a highly collaborative environment interacting closely with other software engineers & product managers to identify opportunities and implement solutions
  • Drive high impact architectural decisions and development, design, execution, and delivery following best coding practices
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation and proactive troubleshooting
  • Provide high quality contributions to the code base, using best practices and a high degree of autonomy
  • Propose and own initiatives to completion while balancing various trade-offs including speed to delivery vs. ongoing maintainability
  • You will mentor other engineers to become proficient developers using best software development practices and processes

What you bring to the table

  • Experience in designing software systems based on Java/Spring Boot
  • Understanding of resilience patterns and what it takes to build scalable systems in microservice architectures
  • Experience implementing both asynchronous message-based communication and synchronous ones such as RESTful APIs
  • Experience with large-scale distributed storage and database systems (SQL or NoSQL, e.g. MySQL, Cassandra)
  • Experienced in architecting and building large-scale event-driven systems across various projects
  • You have experience with automated testing
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes for build and deployment of various applications
  • Great communication skills and the ability to support technical decision making with the team
  • Willingness to learn new technologies or languages
  • You have 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, technical discipline or equivalent work experience
