Software Engineer II - Marketing Technology, Data & Machine Learning

The Role: As a Software Engineer II, you will join one of our core platform teams as a key contributor to the development of our technology and will be expected to (i) provide high quality contributions to the code base, with a mind to best practices and an equally high degree of autonomy, (ii) work with senior leadership to architect solutions and ensure that we deliver the right functionality, in a timely manner, and (iii) mentor junior engineers to develop the next generation of Wayfair engineering. In this hands-on role, you’ll be able to see your work as it powers improved customer understanding / experience or enables new features and functionality in our ad tech stack. 

The Teams: 

  • Growth & Ad Platform Engineering: Our proprietary Ad Tech platforms power our external advertising activities, which expand Wayfair’s brand awareness and draw customers to our site.  We support our Marketing stakeholders, allowing them to operate at scale and maximize our advertising exposure across multiple channels while meeting efficiency targets.
    • Sub groups: Bidding & Ads Info Platform, Product Data Feeds, MarTech Product Catalog, Paid Search, Social, Brand & Integrated Growth Marketing

 

  • Communications Platform Eng: We own the infrastructure and intelligence behind all automated communication that gets sent to customers. This includes hundreds of millions of data points every day for emails, push, and onsite notifications to ensure we’re getting the right message to our customers at the right time, through the right channel.
    • Sub groups: Batch Notification, Notifications Front End, Notifications Content & Delivery, Notifications Intelligence, and Streaming Notifications 

 

  • Advertising Engineering: We build and own the platforms that allow partners to purchase ad space on Wayfair Properties (Wayfair.com/.ca / Joss & Main / etc) and the systems that decide, display and report on those ads.
    • Subgroups: Media Hub, On-site Media, Sponsored Products 

 

  • Customer Intelligence: We own the platforms that collect, organize, and expose customer data in order to drive personalized advertisements, recommendations and notifications to our customers. Additionally, our Scribe platform is a core component of enabling data velocity at Wayfair, and is leveraged by over 50 different teams. For context, we process well over 20 TB’s of data daily.
    • Sub groups: Scribe Foundation, Scribe Platform, Customer ID

 

  • Machine Learning Engineering: The Machine Learning Engineering team delivers self-service platforms to proliferate data science across all of Wayfair and automate the end-to-end workflow for building, deploying and maintaining models at scale and managing the underlying data. We provide Machine Learning consulting to the data science community and act as their trusted advisor to accelerate their efforts.

 

  • Data Solutions: We build complex data models which weave together domain data from all across Wayfair to provide strong analytical capabilities to our business and data science partners.  We empower the company to make better, data-driven decisions by maintaining powerful data access tooling - serving hundreds of users thousands of queries per day.
  • Subgroups: Marketing, Storefront, B2B, Strategic Programs, Foundational Data Engineering

 

Technologies: Java, Python, Javascript, ReactJS, Kafka, Spark, Storm, Flink, Hadoop, Hive, BigQuery, Airflow, Machine Learning, etc.
