About The Team: 

At Wayfair, the User Generated Content team (UGC) is focused on helping customers shop more confidently with help from other customers. We achieve success through empowering our shoppers to find the right product, inspiring our creators to share their experiences, and enabling our suppliers to grow their business.

This Engineer II role will work closely with a team of engineers at our Boston, MA headquarters within our UGC team. This position will collaborate with product, analytics, UX design, and business as well as other engineering teams to deliver best in class software development solutions. You will be responsible for driving the technical architecture of our UGC experience across our sites, which includes product reviews, customer Q&A, and more, as well as helping the team re-platform through decoupled Java based microservices.

The ideal candidate is someone who is technically strong, engaging, highly collaborative, passionate about software engineering, and building strong teams.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work alongside other engineers to work on highly technical projects and deliver high quality contributions to the codebase.
  • Drive high impact architectural decisions from ideation to delivery.
  • Propose solutions to gaps and risks in technical approaches.
  • Create new features and improvements on UGC experiences through the PDP (Product Detail Page) page and Supplier Admin portals.
  • Contribute to longer term replatforming efforts (moving to Java based microservices and federated GraphQL)

What You’ll Need:

  • Mastery in cross-functional consensus building and influencing without given authority.
  • Expertise with a modern programming language (Java, PHP, JavaScript), object oriented design, and data structures. 
  • Experience building and maintaining microservices at scale, especially with regards to authentication, APIs, SLO/SLAs, Kubernetes, load-balancing, and service meshes.
  • Proficiency writing SQL queries against a relational database.
  • Proven success in mentoring junior engineers to improve standards, reduce defects, and grow future leaders on the team.
