The Storefront Platforms team builds and supports platforms which collectively refer to the foundational services, technologies, frameworks, libraries, tools and design assets that support application development.

We support organizations outside of Storefront that have a direct impact on the customer experience, as well as user-focused platforms, including the UI platform for all of our web applications. Our team is composed of the following nine groups: Performance Engineering, Login & Authentication, Dynamic Page Architecture, Promotional Tooling, Frontend Platforms, Backend Platforms, Homebase, Content Strategy and UX Research.

The Storefront Backend Platform team is responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting the core infrastructure and architecture that Storefront teams use to develop and deploy backend services. While Wayfair is in the current transformation from monolithic to a service oriented architecture the SF BE Plat team is also out in front doing exploratory work, partnering with the central Infrastructure teams, and crafting service platform norms, tools, and patterns.

What You’ll Do:

  • You will guide the team in building an application platform for all Storefront engineers.
  • You will own the mission, vision, plan, and delivery of the backend service platform.
  • We work together with engineering leads on other teams to solve issues, and take advantage of opportunities, discovered when moving to a microservice architecture.
  • We translate features and architecture built in a monolithic environments into sustainable solutions in a decoupled services state.
  • We work cross functionally (across departments) to hash out problems and build solutions at application and infrastructure boundaries.
  • You will explore new solutions and test hypotheses through experimentation and proof of concepts.

What You’ll Need:

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience within Software Engineering 
  • Experience with Javascript, Java, React, Graph QL, Kubernetes
  • Experience developing and designing scalable distributed systems
  • Experience with enterprise software design patterns and practices
  • Familiar with HTTP, TCP, SSL, request routing and other networking concepts
  • Experience leading software or infrastructure engineering teams
  • Hands-on experience with any compiled software language

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience guiding teams through large scale transformation effort(s)
  • Working with a wide variety of stakeholders, preferably in a larger organization with distributed ownership (a non-centralized, non-bureaucratic org)
