The Data Science Search & Recommendations team is looking for an experienced machine learning leader for the Search Interpretation initiative. In this role, you’ll lead a team of data scientists to bring our next generation deep learning search query understanding models to life. The query understanding models parse customers’ search queries, mapping the customers’ intention to Wayfair catalog offerings. These models include but are not limited to spelling corrections, query classification and concept extraction and query rewriting. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product management and analytics leaders to improve the search experience of the Wayfair customer across all Wayfair brands in several different languages. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead a team of data scientists to design and develop innovative deep learning query understanding models to support multiple languages and placements. Stay up-to-date with the latest academic research and industry trends on related AI/ML topics. Adopt and advance the state-of-the-art in the field of query understanding.
  • Develop and drive the team’s vision to create intelligent, low-latency and scalable query understanding solutions
  • Collaborate with our engineering and product management leaders to deliver best ecommerce search experience for our customers
  • Serve as an organizational thought leader and sounding board bringing a data-driven and algorithmic perspective to the table



What You'll Need

  • 7+ years of experience in a quantitative or technical work environment, and advanced degree (PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, economics, computer science, engineering, physics, neuroscience, operations research, etc.)
  • 4+ years of experience in mentoring and developing data scientists, researchers scientists or applied ML scientists
  • Track record of delivering results both as an individual contributor and as a manager of Data scientists
  • A high degree of comfort with ambiguity and breaking down complex problems
  • Ability to effectively work with engineering and product management leaders: able to identify and frame complex business problems as suitable machine learning problems, and effective in synthesize complex technical conclusions for non-experts to influence business decisions.
  • High comfort level with Python (preferred), or with other languages such as R, Java, C#, etc.,
  • Machine Learning experience (such as supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, NLP, etc.)
  • Deep Learning in multi-lingual NLP, seq2seq, and domain adaptation experience preferred
