The EU Carrier team are currently hiring for Staff Engineers across three teams, the WDN, Global Carrier Platform teams and Global Transportation Services.

WDN 4 Walls, the team responsible for the systems that enable our delivery network warehouse operations. As part of our team, you will be solving complex problems that have a direct and salient impact on our supply chain operations and end-customers.

Global Carrier Platform is a team based in Berlin with a global responsibility: to build a best-in-class infrastructure to support Wayfair’s demanding needs for carrier integration as it grows in order volume and expands to new geographies, providing a seamless experience to every system and team that requires any kind of interaction with the carrier world.

Global Transportation Services is a global team distributed across multiple locations (United States, United Kingdom and Germany) focusing on building best in class transportation services supporting a superior customer delivery experience by enabling the planning, execution, and tracking of freight movement optimized across reliability, speed and cost for all parcel sizes, miles, modes, and geographic locations. As part of this team, you will be focusing on enhancing our end to end supply chain, while contributing to Load Planning, Global Freight Network, Global Customs, and Network Operations.

We're looking for a passionate senior software engineer/architect who loves to solve complex problems, adapts quickly to a volatile environment, shares knowledge, cares about delivering business value by building scalable software, and brings a healthy dose of knowledge and experience to the table.

Your role at Wayfair

  • Design and be hands-on in building web-based, event driven, cloud enabled applications that are reliable, scalable and easy to maintain;
  • Ensure the quality of engineering decisions across multiple teams within the organization
  • Contribute to architectural and code review discussions that impact our engineering ecosystem
  • Define standards to raise the bar of the teams you’ll be working with
  • Mentor less experienced software engineers
  • Collaborate with leads and engineers across multiple teams to solve a wide variety of business and technical problems
  • Ensure our systems are properly documented
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Wayfair Berlin engineering scene within and beyond Wayfair

What you bring to the table

  • Excellent team player
  • Several years of object-oriented software development experience - preferably using PHP and .Net C# and/or Java
  • Vast experience working with relational and NoSQL databases and event-driven architectures
  • Great skills in solving complex problems with simple abstract solutions
  • Knowledge of web development technologies and distributed systems
  • Experience with SOA and microservices
  • Good understanding of how to use cloud platforms to solve problems, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience working in agile environments
  • Interest in being challenged in a fast-paced environment while having fun
  • Analytical and creative mindset, with a passion for solving business problems with technology
  • Ability to quickly translate business requirements into working features
  • Ability to describe complex problems in an understandable way tailored to diverse audiences
  • High proficiency in oral and written English
