The Service Platform team builds the technologies which enable our partner Service Engineering, business and field teams to create and refine post-order customer experiences in a consistent, repeatable, and data-driven way. Our North Star is to make systematic, well-informed, and real-time decisions on if, (when) and how to intervene when a customer problem or request manifests, and then enable that task to be handled by the most qualified, available owner.

The projects that our teams work on are built from the ground up – we look for entrepreneurial individuals who want to take ownership over their own agenda and thrive in a collaborative team environment. Our engineers are responsible for all the tools and processes to support business-critical operations of Wayfair, along with supporting the continued enhancement and scaling capabilities of these systems. Engineers use data, user-centric design, machine learning, and Agile to achieve operational excellence

What You'll Do:

  • Lead technical roadmaps, design, and implementation across multiple teams of high performing engineers that will shape the future of Wayfair’s post order customer experience.
  • Contribute to the development, deployment and maintenance of platform engines and components using both internal and external solutions
  • Drive implementation and provide visibility to progress through short feedback loops and data-driven action
  • Drive high impact architectural decisions including inception, design, and delivery
  • Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, and proactive troubleshooting
  • Actively encourage and participate in debate to form strong opinions weakly held
  • Motivate and influence teams to buy into vision and roadmap, pushing individuals outside of their comfort zones where necessary
  • Identify risks and gaps in product offerings that drive revenue or cost out and lead initiatives to address those needs

What You Will Need:

  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, with preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience
  • Mastery in designing production systems at scale including fault tolerance, reliability, performance, and security
  • Expertise in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques
  • Proficient with multiple server side programming languages including mastery of one language (Java or PHP preferred)
  • Experience building or using distributed systems (i.e. Kubernetes, Spark, Hadoop, Airflow etc.) and cloud systems (GCP and related offerings)
  • Hands-on coding ability, and willingness! Capable of directly building key product features, functional prototypes, architectural elements, or anything else needed
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a bias for action and desire to build in rapidly changing environments
