The new Shopping Tools group at Wayfair will be focusing on innovative support for users on complex shopping journeys. It will enable omnichannel tools for users to solve design and renovation projects to create a space they love.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical roadmap of the Shopping Tools Engineering team, take cross-functional ownership of its roadmap, drive its capabilities and platform, and create significant business outcomes. 

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a technical leader and drive the future roadmap of the Shopping Tools platform 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product and engineering to understand pain points and drive initiatives forward
  • Act as a trusted mentor and advisor to other engineers and peers and help develop their skills while contributing with them on a variety of projects 
  • Leverage data to understand risks, priorities and scope of business objectives and develop near term goals and set technical objectives to meet the Shopping Tools engineering and product vision
  • Drive software development initiatives and API development across dozens of services within Shopping Tools and beyond
  • Advocate for automation, quality, performance and scalability. Become a staple member of engineering by contributing to code reviews, the RFC process and architecture reviews
  • Show a passion for innovation and results by achieving them.
  • Continuously learn to stay up to date with the company and industry trends, spreads that knowledge and applies it towards building better teams and systems
  • Work to raise the profile of Wayfair as a tech shop through writing, speaking, and sponsoring open-source projects.

What You'll Need

  • Broad experience across technology and software engineering (guidance of 10-20 years related work experience)
  • Hands-on experience driving software transformations within high-growth environments at scale
  • Demonstrated history of implementing and managing large scale distributed systems
  • Proven and successful experience building and shipping decoupled technical platforms
  • Experience with Java, Kubernetes, containerization, microservices
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and project management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse, talented team
  • Depth with customer facing solutions.Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have 

  • A mix of start-up and large-company experience 
  • Experience in identifying and navigating organizational changes, a keen interest in the latest trends in engineering and technical leadership
  • Masters in computer science or another related field preferred.
