Responsibilities:

In this role, you are accountable for the research vision, strategy and output across two technology domains, Enterprise Solutions and Talent Technology, as well as resource planning and team allocation. 

Your proficiency in management and/or craft is high enough that you are an effective manager/mentor of other managers and/or high-performing craft practitioners. You effectively architect and mobilize the team(s) within your scope/domain for success against strategic objectives, through the creation of frameworks, team structures, and operational improvements. You are a trusted strategic partner to the broad set of cross-functional leaders in your scope.

The Enterprise Solutions team is on a mission to:

  • Improve the employee experience: We strive to make the experience of every Wayfairian as easy as possible with technology & solutions that address common Wayfairian needs.
  • Drive fast business value: We identify, deliver, manage and evolve tech solutions that can be used across departments so those teams meet their goals faster than if they had to buy/build/maintain it themselves.
  • Optimize technology spend: We work to leverage single technology solutions across the business where appropriate so we don’t incur confusion or unnecessary spend from redundant tools.

Skills: 

  • Work with business and product leads to define overall research strategy, agenda, key questions and objectives around new or existing product lines across a range of product verticals
  • Apply expert-level knowledge in conducting foundational, formative, and evaluative research using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods such as: usability testing, contextual interviews, field research, surveys, diary studies, focus groups, or concept and remote testing
  • Influence a diverse set of stakeholders through excellent relationship building, and providing insight and deep domain expertise in research practices and product strategy and development
  • Lead with a strong voice and informed perspective. Embodies a trusted research leader and strategic thought partner 
  • Develop and implement planning system for research priority and allocation, multiple quarters in advance
  • Lead research team that delivers via a hybrid operational model combining centralized leadership with product domain alignment 
  • Effective manager/mentor of other managers and/or high-performing craft practitioners 
  • Set and maintain a world-class bar for talent and execution within scope
  • Create an environment where both psychological safety and accountability are extremely high, where diversity of backgrounds and perspectives is celebrated, and teams and individuals have the resources, support, context, and motivation to do world-class work.
  • Lead cross-domain research or initiatives to define problem spaces, identify opportunity areas, and connect dots
  • Communicate and champion research findings and prioritized recommendations to internal stakeholders in a clear and compelling way
  • Identify, build, and roll out training for non-researchers across disciplines to build discovery skillset to effectively tackle ambiguous problem spaces
