Localization Engineer will focus on file engineering and DTP. Supports on-demand project needs during CET hours to enable our service delivery model for assigned accounts. At least one year of working experience in localization, in a DTP or Engineering role, is expected. Specific applications skills are detailed in the description below. Qualified candidates in any CET timezone will be considered, as long as they are legally able to work during the required hours. Your primary contacts for daily urgent/on-demand tasks are mostly located in Europe.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages translation memories
  • Takes responsibility for QA working methods. Sets the criteria and working methods for working with XBench, MemoQ and other available tools on the market. Works with the other teams to improve automated methods throughout the QA process.
  • Takes responsibility for machine translation domains. Identifies recurring errors, analyses machine efficiency and provides feedback.
  • Manages layout and DTP projects
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The engineer in this role must be proficient in common Adobe and Office formatting and graphic design applications and must be able to quickly gain proficiency using online translation management systems. Working knowledge of command-line interface, to input and execute commands following a defined script, and to troubleshoot results from logs or responses, is also required.
  • Proficient using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, and Excel.
  • Proficient using Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets.
  • Able to edit and publish graphics using Inkscape.
  • Understands XLIFF file format and can explain it to another person.
  • Working experience using CAT tools (either desktop or online) to prepare multilingual projects and to generate/export target files.
  • Input and run commands in CLI including deciding how to adjust parameters and flags to achieve the desired result.
  • Competencies

  • Localization engineers are a key member of production teams that include non-technical staff and third-party vendors. Production team members are located around the world. An ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English is required. A successful engineer can communicate about technical topics with a non-technical audience.
