Zoox's Advanced Hardware Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, and productization of the sensor and computer hardware for our autonomous vehicle. As our mechanical test engineer you will be responsible for developing, documenting and executing component and system-level testing. You will collaborate with design engineers and test engineers to characterize the functional performance of Zoox computer and sensory hardware. You will be responsible for performing development tests on early prototypes and qualification testing on modules intended for vehicle use. Projects range from thermal system characterization to weather simulation. We are looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, innovative, a self-starter, and willing to take on the challenges to work with us as an exceptional mechanical test engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Write design verification plans with respect to functional, environmental, and reliability testing
  • Design and fabricate test fixtures for use in vibration, thermal and sensor characterization testing
  • Procure and operate test equipment to simulate environmental conditions of road vehicles
  • Collect field data to measure vehicle thermal and dynamic environments
  • Engage with design engineers at early stages of development to perform testing on early development hardware
  • Collaborate with production test teams to help develop acceptance test plans and end of line test equipment
  • Develop test scripts, data acquisition and measurement systems, test fixtures, and data depository to support prototype and production testing
  • Analyze test results, work with design teams to identify test failure root cause, implement and verify corrective actions and solution effectiveness
  • Hold test design reviews, test readiness reviews, data reviews
  • Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 4+ years industry experience in design or test role
  • Experience in testing automotive, consumer electronics, or aerospace components
  • Experience in CAD software (CATIA or 3D Experience preferred)
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Shock, vibration, thermal, and IP test experience
  • Familiarity with basic thermal and modal analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 GD&T and comfort in drafting engineering drawings
  • Prior experience in National Instruments and Keysight test platforms preferred
  • Familiarity with ALM tools (Polarion preferred)
