About the Role
The Platform Engineering and Internal Tools software teams together create the foundational software infrastructure and applications that run the majority of 10x services, as well as the services and tools that 10x employees rely on every day to make a positive impact on the world.
What you will be doing
- Provide hands-on technical leadership
- Implement effective engineering processes and policies
- Drive excellence in engineering and team performance
- Work with teams across 10x Genomics to foster a collaborative culture to deliver the right product on-time
- Work with computational biologists and R&D leads to spec out new tools and features
- Work with a wide variety of groups across 10x to build the best platform for applications possible
- Oversee our cloud infrastructure to ensure the highest level of reliability, scalability, and performance
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline and 4 years of software development experience; OR 6 years of professional experience building software
- 5 years leading software teams in an operational or technical capacity
Preferred skills and experience
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong desire to mentor and grow employees
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, AWS
- Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals
- Demonstrated disciplined and rigorous software engineering practices
- You understand the importance of software processes in service of engineering
- You understand the importance of testing and have a deep understanding of the build process, continuous integration, deployment, and continuous monitoring
- Deep understanding of OS internals, software architecture, networking, and building scalable applications

Below is the base pay range for this full time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
