About the role:

10x Genomics is a rapidly growing company in the life sciences, whose core technology combines advances in instrumentation, chemistry, biochemistry, microfluidics and computational biology.

10x is looking for a dynamic and passionate individual to join its Instrumentation Engineering group and manage its team of electrical engineers.  The Sr. Manager Electrical Engineering will organize, structure, plan and provide direction to ensure the support and secure the design of our current and future platforms.  

As part of the Core Engineering group, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing sophisticated solutions for complex instrumentation. Previous experience in leading teams in developing electrical architecture to enable motion control, fluid handling, high power illumination, signal processing and video transmission, is required.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide a long-term vision and design directions to the electrical engineering team members to ensure our product meet or exceed the requirements
  • Seek and identify new technologies to support continuous improvement
  • Organize and structure the team to efficiently deliver on the different projects and tasks
  • Review customer and internal product requirements and define objectives and milestones to meet the deliverables in a timely manner
  • Own the design, development and test of our electrical boards including regulatory compliance (FCC, UL, CSA, FMEA, CE, ISO, and other regulatory requirements)
  • Plan, budget and resource internal and cross-functional activities
  • Collaborate with other functional teams (mechanical, firmware, software, microfluidics, system, & quality) to solve complex design challenges
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain to efficiently transfer the design and manage 3rd party vendors
  • Clearly document and communicate the project status across functional teams and management levels
  • Mentor team members and promote continuous improvement to facilitate individual growth and team performance

To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor degree (Master’s degree preferred) or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, with minimum10 years of relevant experience.
  • Natural leadership skills and prior experience in managing team, project and technology in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated ability to grow, organize and lead electrical engineer team in delivering high quality products
  • Hands-on experience in designing and troubleshooting PCB assemblies using key interfaces/subsystems (microprocessors, memory, USB, Ethernet, i2c, CAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.)
  • Design experience with motion control, fluid handling, high power illumination, signal processing and video transmission
  • Practical knowledge of embedded FW/SW for microcontrollers
  • Experience running designs through DFx reviews
  • Ability to document and communicate clearly across functions and management levels
  • Solid understanding of overall instrument design approaches and product life cycles
