This is a key position for the commercialization of consumable products associated with Next Generation Sequencing chemistries.  The candidate will work closely with Product Development, Process Development,  R&D and Microfluidics teams to assure 10x implements world class products and consumables.

As part of the Advanced Manufacturing Team, the candidate will be responsible for transforming challenging and complex microfluidics designs into molds that will be used to manufacture cutting edge, highly toleranced microfluidic devices.

The ideal candidate should have a broad understanding of Precision Engineering, High Precision Milling with diamond tools (3-5 axes), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer-Aided Design (CAD),  injection molding, tooling design, etc.  You should love showing others that the impossible can be done.

What you will be doing:

  • Own the transfer of microfluidics device layouts into high precision injection molds with submicron tolerances on some critical feature geometry.
  • Provide feedback to the R&D team regarding the manufacturability of the microfluidics layout and make recommendations to improve the design for manufacturability.
  • Convert microfluidics models into injection mold inserts using CAD.
  • Make recommendations on cutting tool selection and use CAM to generate machine code for our ultra precision milling machines.
  • Work closely with our CNC engineers throughout the fabrication process.
  • Recommend part inspection techniques, interpret results and make recommendations.
  • Work with injection molding experts (internal and external) to understand how inserts can be improved to meet tolerances on injection molded parts.
  • Work in collaboration with R&D and manufacturing teams to design, assemble and test prototypes
  • Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.
  • Manage component/material suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Collect, analyze and present metrology data in front of cross functional teams
  • Test and troubleshoot prototypes
