Job summary

If you've been following Atlassian for the past couple of years, you know that our design team has been busy. We have done a complete brand redesign, launched the Atlassian Design Guidelines, and just finished the first phase of our design align project. Our business is scaling rapidly, both in size and complexity as we launch new products. Our teams are growing substantially, with new designers joining the team in other geographies, and agencies coming onboard to supplement what we're building in-house. It's an exciting time to be a design leader at Atlassian.

We are looking for an experienced Creative Director to lead the Atlassian University Content Design team as we take on these new challenges. We're looking for an innovative creative leader, motivated to push technical and creative boundaries. You will be charged with determining the best ways for us to visually connect with our users as they learn how best to use our tools. You will be working with internal and external partners, rallying cross-functional teams around a common Atlassian design language and company vision. Much of this path is still uncharted and you will be leading the creative charge to determine where learning and design meet at Atlassian.

Atlassian University engages our customers and partners through Training Technology products with the mission to help them develop new skills, improve their team’s work, and advance their professional careers. We’re excited to take our Training offerings to the next level by expanding our training content, delivery, and Marketplace app. Success will be determined by an unparalleled customer journey from awareness, through engagement, and ultimately building customer champions.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the creative design leader of the Atlassian University Team
  • Deliver clear concept design to drive the vision and set the tone of work
  • Building and leading an innovative approach to knowledge acquisition, customer engagement, and learner outcomes
  • Partner strategically and creatively with stakeholders across the business including Instructional design, Product teams, and Go to Market
  • Ensuring quality while prioritizing work and resources across engagements based on short and long-term needs
  • Drive vision, storyboarding, and experience, for content development by external vendors 
  • Minimum qualifications

  • 10 years of experience at a design firm, creative agency, or in a product design/development function at an innovation company
  • Experience in a creative leadership role including writing design briefs for project execution
  • Experience holding external delivery partners to design standards and delivery timelines
  • BFA or other advanced degree in design or related discipline
  • A portfolio of original work
  • A strong foundation in video and online experiences 
  • A strong working knowledge of interaction, UI, and UX design
  • An ability to work iteratively, collaboratively, and often in ambiguity

  • Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in a company that makes digital products
  • Exposure to and knowledge about the craft of product design
  • Experience managing external vendors across multiple products
  • Knack for leading cross-functional personalities, inspiring them to produce groundbreaking work in a structured way
  • An eagerness to engage with users across formats, including social media, in-person training, and online learning
  • An ability to promote and inspire a culture of creativity and digital innovation with a finger on the pulse of what’s new and possible
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
