Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Director of Data Platform.
In this role, you will
- Set the strategic vision and technical roadmap for the Data Platform by working with your leads, and the broader Autonomy Org to enable data-driven decision-making across the company.
- Drive technical excellence and innovation, championing best practices in software development, data architecture, and system reliability.
- Combine technical leadership with organizational strategy to ensure our data platform empowers every part of Aurora - from product innovation to operational excellence.
- Build a “Data for AI”, including data discovery, dataset generation, lineage tracking, ML experimentation and optimizing iteration speed for ML Engineers leading to improvement of autonomy performance.
- Lead a diverse team of sub-teams including Tools and Visualization, Autonomy Data, Data Analytics and build reliable and efficient systems that scale to support all autonomy developers, operate on data from a fleet of autonomous vehicles
- Lead a highly cross-functional environment, collaborating closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Data Science
- Attract and hire industry-leading engineers and operations staff
- Foster a team culture of collaboration, excellence, and delivery
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated success in building and leading teams responsible for large-scale data platforms and/or infrastructure.
- Proven experience managing high-performing engineering teams and growing engineers and managers to senior levels.
- Experience in distributed systems, data infrastructure, modern data technologies (e.g. Kafka, Spark, BigQuery), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Exceptional strategic thinking with the ability to align technical solutions with organizational goals.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the company and leading multiple software engineering teams
- Previous experience as a lead technical engineer, with a demonstrated ability to dig in to complex technical challenges
- Ability to build and grow teams
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with Machine Learning infrastructure and tools.
- Experience working on large scale infrastructure, data visualisation and lineage tools
- Experience hiring for rapidly growing startups.
The base salary range for this position is $223,000 - $320,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
