Aurora Overview

Aurora is searching  for a Sr. Director of Systems, Safety and Test Engineering to lead Systems engineering, safety engineering and system level testing efforts for the Aurora Driver - Aurora’s flagship self driving product.

In this role, you will lead the organization responsible for system requirements, system testing, safety, and play a critical role in ensuring the Aurora Driver system is designed to meet the safety goals.  

**This role could be a Sr. Director or VP depending on the experience of the candidate.**

Required Qualifications

  • Direct experience and track record in leading Systems engineering, Safety Engineering, or System Testing functions at an organization building safety critical products encompassing complex hardware and software systems. 
  • Independently lead projects around areas like safety requirements, fault management, test life cycle etc. 
  • Familiarity with the applications of Artificial Intelligence or Autonomous Systems technologies (e.g., Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, Machine Learning) to sensing, perception, multi-unit planning, or command and control of autonomous systems
  • Drive efficiency gains, find opportunities to refine processes, and set and adjust priorities based on business needs and available resources
  • Collaborate with product and engineering to improve the safety and performance of our technology.
  • Communicate clearly, efficiently, and regularly to operations leadership, test requesters, and any other stakeholders.

Essential

  • Full lifecycle software engineering experience.
  • Complex Systems Leadership of teams of 100+ total reports, including 3-5 Director level directs, including many Sr. Staff+ engineers.
  • Breadth and depth with safety, systems,  simulation, testing, triage and design.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in safety critical industry, particularly with safety-critical software development standards, software safety fault/hazard analysis, and requirements-driven software verification and validation strategies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the application of ISO 21448 (SOTIF)

The base salary range for this position is $271,000 to $460,000 per year.  Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
