About the Role
The Director, US Finance, with a direct reporting line to our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), is a pivotal leadership role at Blue Bottle Coffee, tasked with steering and enhancing the financial performance and strategic direction in the United States. We seek a candidate who combines analytical depth, strategic foresight, and a proactive approach to financial management. This role demands a profound comprehension of the financial and operational dynamics within the coffee or similar retail sectors and the capability to spearhead our finance team towards achieving the company’s financial objectives.

You will:

  • Strategic Financial Oversight & Ownership: Oversee the development and implementation of financial strategies that align with Blue Bottle Coffee’s mission and US market dynamics. Lead the financial analysis of business initiatives, identifying risks and opportunities to inform strategic decisions. Ownership of the short to mid-term strategy execution and operation direction in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Financial Planning: Craft and implement the US financial strategy in harmony with Blue Bottle Coffee’s overarching business goals. Responsibilities include forecasting, budgeting, and prioritizing financial initiatives to bolster growth.
  • Financial Leadership: Guide the US finance team and business partners through all fiscal operations, encompassing budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, strategic market planning, and reporting.
  • Market Expansion Support: Analyze and support strategic market expansion plans, including location analysis, capital investments, and ROI assessments. Guide the financial planning for new market entries and product launches to ensure alignment with growth strategies.
  • Operational Excellence: Collaborate closely with senior leadership to amplify financial and operational performance within the US market. Provide critical analysis and support for strategic decision-making, investment avenues, and operational enhancements.
  • Cross-Functional Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives that enhance overall business performance. Participate in strategy formulation that transcends financial aspects, influencing product development, brand, and operations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Cultivate, lead, and mentor a high-caliber finance team. Promote a culture of excellence, ongoing improvement, and professional growth.
  • Cost Reduction and Efficiency Improvements: Identify and implement strategies to minimize costs and elevate financial efficiency throughout the organization, continuously monitoring their success.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a key finance contact for internal and external stakeholders, including investors, vendors, and financial institutions. Prepare and present financial reports and business insights.
  • Innovation and Growth Support: Evaluate and advise on long-term business planning and financial planning. Support mergers, acquisitions, and expansion activities as needed.
  • Interacts with executive leadership and others concerning matters of significance to the organization where ultimate decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success or failure of the business.

  • You have:

  • 8+ years of finance or related experience 
  • Experience in a high-growth retail environment preferred
  • Proficiency in financial management software and advanced Excel skills
  • Last but not least, a deep love for great coffee, food, and exceptional guest experiences

  • This position has a salary range of $175k-195k + bonuses. This salary is a good-faith estimate for this position. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, which include a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
