About the role
We’re hiring a Product Design Director to lead our Financial Security cross-functional design team. As our Design Director, you’ll guide the vision and craft of Chime’s key money movement experiences—including spending, MyPay, and lending—so our members can feel secure, confident, and in control of their financial lives. This is a high-impact leadership role where design excellence, thoughtful execution, and a passion for empowering everyday Americans are key.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $254,000 and up to $324,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Lead and grow a talented team of product designers focused on core money movement experiences—spending, MyPay, and lending.
- Drive end-to-end design for mobile-first experiences that help members use, access, and manage their money with ease and confidence.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, research, data, and marketing to ship high-impact features that support member financial progress.
- Ensure every product shipped meets a high bar for visual polish, usability, and trust.
- Build a strong team culture that celebrates craft, feedback, and continuous learning.
- Balance member needs, business goals, and technical realities to make tradeoffs and decisions.
- Provide design direction and mentorship—elevating the quality of design and product thinking across your team.
To thrive in this role, you have
- A portfolio of shipped consumer mobile products that showcase excellence in visual design and interaction.
- Experience leading and scaling product design teams, ideally in high-growth or cross-functional environments.
- Strong product intuition and the ability to connect design decisions to user needs and business outcomes.
- Expertise in iOS and Android design patterns and a commitment to accessibility and inclusive design.
- A track record of building intuitive, elegant solutions for complex user problems—especially in fintech or mobile consumer products.
- The ability to bring clarity and structure to ambiguity, and to coach others to do the same.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to represent design at the leadership level.
