We’re looking for a Head of Procurement who is not only a seasoned leader but also an AI enthusiast ready to reimagine how technology can transform procurement into a structured, scalable, and value-driving capability. This role will own procurement strategy and operations across the company, working closely with Legal, Finance, AP, Security, and business stakeholders to ensure we design agreements that prove their value to the business and workflows that encourage stakeholder partnership.
You’ll bring operational discipline, modern tooling, negotiation, and relationship building expertise to a function that’s maturing and modernizing to align with Clover Health’s scale and strategic prioritizes. You’ll also help shift the mindset across the business—from reactive purchasing to intentional, value-oriented procurement, with a strong emphasis on leveraging AI for process optimization and strategic advantage.
As a Head of Procurement, you will:
- Set the vision and operating model for a modern procurement function that aligns with Clover’s current and future scale, including the strategic integration of AI to automate workflows, up-level vendor strategies, and optimize procurement systems.
- Lead sourcing, contract negotiation, and vendor lifecycle management for goods and services across all business units including driving clear ROI and vendor accountability.
- Oversee implementation and management of Gatekeeper, our vendor contract management tool, and ensure it supports documentation, approvals, and policy enforcement in a frictionless experience for the business, leveraging AI capabilities to drive efficiency and compliance
- Build and refine purchasing processes, and serve as the business lead for associated systems and policies, with a focus on AI-driven scalability and automation..
- Utilize data driven insights powered by AI to drive cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Finance, AP, IT, and Compliance to streamline procurement operations and mitigate risk.
- Ability to influence, educate and drive adoption among business partners unfamiliar with structured procurement practices and the benefits of AI in procurement.
- Develop dashboards and reporting to track contract volume, vendor performance, savings metrics, and spend visibility, utilizing advanced analytics and AI insights.
- Evaluate vendor partnerships through data and KPIs, identify opportunities for consolidation or improvement, and advise leadership accordingly, demonstrating an inquisitive and resourceful approach (e.g., identifying duplicative vendor work and proposing streamlined solutions).
- Build and mentor high-performing teams by fostering operational excellence, clarity, and a strong service orientation.
Success in this role looks like:
By 90 days:
- Partnered with AP on the roadmap for PO-based procurement and initiated rollout.
- Evaluated current tools, began remediation of Gatekeeper workflows or kicked off new tool implementation.
- Engaged in vendor negotiations and renegotiations to secure stronger terms and early cost savings.
- Secured leadership alignment on the procurement roadmap, positioning the function as a driver of efficiency, compliance, and value.
By 6 months:

- Our procurement tooling and workflows have been optimized and AI-integrated and are used consistently to manage contracts, approvals, and compliance.
- Clover has shifted from reactive purchasing to a proactive, AI-driven procurement process adopted across all business units

- Through relationship building, strategic influence, and comprehensive AI-powered insights that optimize vendor efficacy and contract terms that meet the goals of the business and provide timely, strategic value through innovative AI applications, the Procurement function is seen as a trusted partner across the business.
- Vendor contracts reflect Clover’s terms, risk posture, and service expectations—with measurable cost savings and improved vendor accountability, driven by intelligent contract analysis and negotiation strategies.
You should get in touch if:
- You have 7+ years of procurement, sourcing, or vendor management experience, including time leading a function.
- You have a strong working knowledge of procurement tooling (e.g. Gatekeeper, Coupa, SAP, etc.) and proven experience with optimizing systems and automating workflows to ease customer friction.
- You have hands-on experience negotiating a wide range of contracts, including MSAs, SLAs, SOWs, and licensing agreements that have demonstrated value and vendor accountability and have partnered with Legal, Finance, and IT teams to ensure compliance and alignment.
- You thrive in fast-paced environments and demonstrate resilience when faced with organizational resistance or change fatigue. You have experience working with annual contract volumes in the hundreds and vendor spend in the millions.
- You have a track record of building or significantly improving procurement functions at scale, with a strong inclination towards AI-driven transformation.
- You have demonstrated experience applying systems and design thinking to solving complex problems and have been an early adopter and implementor of AI within the procurement function.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred; relevant certifications (e.g. CPM, CPSM) are a plus.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $160,000 to $185,000. Final pay is based on several factors including but not limited to internal equity, market data, and the applicant’s education, work experience, certifications, etc.
