The mission of Equitas Academy Charter Schools is to provide a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students to graduate from four-year colleges and universities. We currently serve over 2,000 students and operate six schools, four elementary schools and two middle schools in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The Community Schools Coordinator is a dedicated staff member who serves as a social justice champion and asset-based thinker. They are responsible for building on the strengths of students, families, and community partners to connect and integrate resources that enrich learning environments and support every student’s success. The coordinator will support a ‘whole-child’ approach, in line with the California Community Schools framework, with an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement. The Community Schools Coordinator will partner with staff, families, and community-based organizations to create the conditions students need to thrive. Additionally, the Community School Coordinator is responsible for implementing systems, procedures, and policies.
The Community Schools Coordinator reports to the School Principal and collaborates with a Network Director of Community Schools.
Essential Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:
Engages with community partners to align programs and services for students and families based on the community’s needsPromote student well-being and community connection as part of supervision team during key school times such as arrival, lunch, and dismissalCoordinate and participate in school meetings, outreach events, and grant-related activitiesFacilitate the Community Schools Advisory Council to enhance collaboration and incorporate opportunities for co-creation in decision-makingDevelop and facilitate school-wide and network-wide family workshopsAdvocate for students, families, and community members, ensuring their voices are elevatedConduct home visits as neededSupport families throughout the SART processPromote Community Schools resources and events through a variety of communication strategies, including passing out flyers, tabling events, and targeted outreach effortsLeadership & Collaboration:
Support school site-specific needs by responding to the unique priorities of the school community.Serve on the school leadership team, strengthening the bridge between the school and community while fostering shared leadership and trustAttend and facilitate family events which may take place after school hours and on weekends to meet the needs of familiesAnalyze data to identify gaps in community school programs and recommend improvementsLead collaborative efforts to improve community resource delivery, access, and coordination through solution-focused approachesEstablish and coordinate service teams to ensure needs are met and services are maximized, making adjustments as necessaryAssist in facilitating a timely and appropriate referral process to community resources by supporting connections and recommending services to providers, without providing direct case managementCollaborates with Network staff to support alignment between schools and Network Collaborates with Site Admin, ELOP Coordinator, counselors, Operations teams, and other site staff to accomplish Community Schools goalsNeeds & Assets Assessment:
Conduct needs and asset assessments by building strong, trusting relationships with school staff, administrators, counselors, parents, students, and partner agenciesIdentify barriers to learning, available resources, and gaps in services to improve student outcomesCapacity Building & Resource Development:
Collaborate with the school leadership team and network to co-create a shared vision for Community SchoolsDevelop a comprehensive continuum of services for students, families, and the broader communityAssist in maintaining an effective referral process to community resources, ensuring timely and appropriate supportFacilitate professional development opportunities for staff to enhance service deliveryParticipate in grant required communities of practice sessionsQualifications:
Fluency in Spanish Required – Must confidently read, write, speak, and present in Spanish in professional settingsAA degree or a minimum of 60 semester units required BA degree highly preferredAt least two years experience working with youth and families requiredAt least two years experience in a role that manages schedules, facilities, staff, or program developmentAt least two years experience in community engagement, program coordination, and advocacy (preferred)Flexibility to work outside of standard hours when neededCurrent CPR and 1st Aid Certificate or within 3 months of employment Criminal clearance, including fingerprints and TB Test required prior to employmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability in working with youth, parents, and community leadersStrong organization skills and calendaring skillsStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility to gather quantitative and observational data and monitor program trends Comfortable making progress amid uncertainty and pivoting as priorities shiftCommitment to Diversity:

Salary:
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Salary range starts at $68,700
Work Location:
This position requires working from a School site location and does not have a work from home component
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, required
Position Contingencies:
This position is funded through the Community Schools Grant through June 2028
