POSITION SUMMARY

The Division Vice President of Optometry Operations is responsible for field operational strategy, execution and enhancing of the patient experience across the division. Reporting to the Division President, this is a transformational leadership role at scale of 550 plus practice sites, 600 providers, and 3000 employee’s. This includes all optometry operations, sales performance, patient experience, employee relations (including but not limited to staffing, training, performance management and employee recognition), and the appropriate and consistent execution of corporate strategies and initiatives. This newly created position will help drive the strategic initiatives across the division as EyeCare Partners continues to expand as the leading provider of clinically integrated eye care.

While the preference is for this position to be onsite in St. Louis, we will consider remote candidates who are willing to travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position will be responsible for alignment and driving consistency across all OPT regions with regard to patient, doctor, and employee experience.
    • Ensure the productivity and actions of optometry meet the overall operational goals of the divisions as established by division leadership.
    • Drive patient satisfaction and an optimized patient experience including a focus on quality – quality of experience, product recommendations, product measurements and the final fitting/dispensing.
    • Oversee development and operationalize SOPs across all regions, in order to gain better consistency in standard policies, training, schedules, pay/bonus/incentive programs and overall staff expectations and outcomes.
  • P&L Management and Accountability for approximately $500m in annual Net Revenue (2021) across 16 states and 3,000 employees, and with an aggressive revenue growth plan via both organic and acquisitive growth.
    • Manage optometry budget with an understanding of drivers for human capital and create solutions to manage and enhance productivity.
    • Oversee all KPIs, setting of goals and manage performance against attainment of targets.
    • Establish and manage operations budget, aligning resources to strategy.
    • Anticipate and respond to changes in the economic, industry and regulatory environments which may impact the ability to achieve optometry financial, service, regulatory and leadership development goals. Prepare appropriate forecasts taking into consideration non-planned (+/-) trends.
    • Oversee (develop?) field capital planning process with key stakeholders and lead prioritization process based on business and patient impact.
    • Drive business results against budget for each region under the Optometry Division.
    • In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer and Regional Medical Directors, Develop and adhere to optometry staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets.
    • Respond to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve budget goals.
  • Set Growth Strategy and Develop Execution Plans for Optometry Division
    • Identify and execute on driving organic growth for increasing Same Office Sales
    • Align to the strategic objectives of the company set by the executive team and carry out initiatives which support these objectives
    • Implement De Novo Strategy, which will be a new concentration for the company and needs to drive a considerable share in organic growth. This will require strong execution to hit revenue and EBITDA targets set for each de novo office.
    • Lead team through market level growth & development planning to cover both short and long term needs ensuring strong and stable SOS growth, and optimization of market level P&L performance.
    • Acquisition Oversight - Hold teams accountable for developing & meeting performance goals, development of growth strategies and executing against plan.
  • Employee Experience and Satisfaction
    • Create a work environment where team members are highly engaged and accomplish their best results via development, communications, rewards and recognition.
    • Participate in employee experience mapping activities as we look for opportunities to improve employee retention and optimize satisfaction among our doctors and employees
    • Improve communication to the Optometry Field Teams, including Doctors, to align the organization to the newly deployed Mission, Vision and Values.
    • Ensure an appropriate, outcome-based performance management system is effected which ties to a compensation (base and incentive) program which maximizes patient satisfaction, employee reward & recognition and business drivers.
  • Focus on Leadership and Team Development, among direct reports, dotted line relationships and support services leadership
    • Direct strategy for maximizing field training of associates with emphasis in operational, product and behavioral manner/methods of training.
    • Collaborate with Human Resources on leadership programs, field succession planning, development and the creation of career paths for all employees in the Optometry organization
    • Partner with MP&A Leadership to support ECP's strategic focus on Merchandising, Planning and Allocation, which will impact product offering, inventory processes and driving newly developed KPIs through data analytics
    • Partner with the real estate and marketing functions to ensure locations, programs, and messaging is targeted and consistent with the overall direction of the Optometry Division
    • As necessary, conduct local market competitive surveys on products, promotion, pricing, employment, etc.
    • Effect Local Store Marketing Programs in conjunction with the Marketing Department.
    • Align the Optometry Regional Leadership Team with Ophthalmology Leadership in order to support our vertical integration strategy in markets where we have overlapping presence.
    • Bring leadership together, including doctors, to align on opportunities to enhance doctor relationships, continuing education and networking opportunities.
  • Work with OD Leadership on strategy creation based on business impact and needs.
  • Significant concentration on increasing retail sales, which includes product of eyeglasses, optical lenses, contact lenses and medical supplies.
  • Participate in board, employee and medical team member meetings as required.
  • Travel 50%

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated expertise in principles, procedures, and best practices in operations.
  • Strong industry (multi-unit, assisted selling and if possible optical) experience
  • Ability to navigate efficiently in complex environments and relationships to achieve optimal results.
  • Ability to influence a performance-based and engaging field culture
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent organization skills, with an attention to detail, and  demonstrating appropriate sense of urgency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven skills in quickly and accurately identifying root cases to problems and developing multiple viable solutions
  • Proficient with traditional office and productivity technologies and software
  • Strong resource management skills with ability to creatively and efficiently allocate resources to meet changing patient and environmental needs.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • At least 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree preferred.
