What you’ll do here: 

FareHarbor, a Booking holding Company, is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team in Amsterdam. This role focuses on solving shared challenges across Product Teams, delivering reusable tools/components, and improving developer productivity, with scalability and security best practices as a key consideration.

Our platform supports tens of thousands of businesses daily, and our external APIs integrate with major partners such as Viator, TripAdvisor, and VELTRA, helping our clients expand their reach. We are looking for a software engineer first and foremost, but one who also has a strong understanding of scalability, distributed systems, performance and security fundamentals to help ensure that our systems remain high performing, secure and resilient.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and implement complex backend systems with a strong focus on performance, scalability and security.
  • Build reliable, maintainable, and well-documented infrastructure and tooling that empowers internal developers and ensures high system availability.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our platform architecture, identifying areas to improve developer experience, system performance, and code maintainability.
  • Write clean, well-tested, production-quality code and reusable libraries that enhance engineering velocity across the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with security, infrastructure, and product engineering teams to identify and mitigate risks while balancing performance and usability.
  • Proactively drive initiatives around observability, performance tuning, API optimization, and CI/CD improvements.
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortems to continually improve system robustness and reliability.
  • Advocate for best practices in system design, performance-aware development, and secure coding across engineering teams.
  • Mentor and support other engineers in adopting scalable and maintainable development patterns.

 

Requirement:

  • 6+ years of experience working with large-scale, production systems and mission-critical codebases.
  • Proficient in Python with strong experience in Django or similar frameworks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in addressing performance bottlenecks, improving scalability, and optimizing developer workflows.
  • Familiarity with secure coding principles and ability to design APIs and services that are both performant and secure.
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and modern authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and release engineering.
  • Comfortable working across the stack and collaborating across teams in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly.
  • Bonus: hands-on experience with platform security practices or operational security (e.g., Red/Blue/Purple team work).
