Who we’re looking for

We're seeking a driven and analytical professional to join our Corporate Venture Capital team at Hilti Venture. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution collaborating with and investing in construction technology startups.

What you’ll be doing

The Corporate Venture Capital Director will identify, evaluate, and execute investment opportunities while providing crucial support to portfolio companies. Working closely with senior leadership, they will source and evaluate strategic investment and collaboration opportunities with startups that align with Hilti's vision. 

The primary responsibilities for our next Director of Hilti Venture will be to:

  • Collaborate with Hilti's software leaders to understand their strategy, vision, and priorities.
  • Build and maintain Hilti Venture's global brand within the startup ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts
  • Increase Hilti Venture's visibility across relevant industry and tech communities (e.g., hosting events, speaking on panels, etc.)
  • Act as the primary liaison between the startup ecosystem and Hilti organization to ensure successful collaboration.
  • Source and screen potential investment opportunities through market research and network building
  • Evaluate and execute investments by identifying promising startups that align with Hilti's long-term strategic vision. Communicate that to senior management.
  • Manage the investment process and deal execution through approval and closing in collaboration with corporate functions.
  • Conduct due diligence on target companies, including market analysis and competitive landscape
  • Prepare investment memorandums and present findings to investment committee
  • Organize in-person executive meetings between Hilti leaders and startup founders.
  • Share construction tech insights with senior leaders and Hilti customers.
  • Monitor portfolio companies and assist with post-investment value creation initiatives
  • Support other Fieldwire and Hilti initiatives, including thought leadership.
  • This role requires you to travel at least 25% of the time in the U.S. and internationally. Some months it may be necessary to travel up to 50 or 75%.

At Fieldwire, we’re looking for our next Director of Hilti Venture to have the following skills and experiences

  •  6+ years of experience in strategic, managerial, and operational roles at companies of the Hilti Group or proven track record in corporate venture and innovation in construction tech.
  •  Excellence in strategic and analytical thinking and problem-solving
  •  Business acumen
  •  Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field
  •  Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  •  Skilled networking and relationship-building
  •  Self-directed, entrepreneurial, and can manage multiple complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively
  • Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal) in English and presentation skills; fluency in other languages is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Proven track record in execution and completing projects from beginning to end
  • Ability to navigate the Hilti organization
  • Understands the construction industry and their key stakeholders, and Hilti and Fieldwire customers
  • Proven track record in execution and completing projects from beginning to end
  • Proven ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively while meeting deadlines and organizational goals.

  • Experience with venture capital or private equity transactions
  • Existing network in the construction tech startup ecosystem.
  • Strong project management capabilities
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and ability to manage differing viewpoints.
  • MBA or advanced degree (preferred but not required)
  • Experience negotiating and executing investments with startups.

Compensation

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows: $180,000 - $220,000.

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors such as your skills, qualifications and experience. In addition to the salary you may be eligible for a corporate bonus which can range up to 20%.

Where is the job located?

This role is hybrid and will require multiple days a week in the San Francisco, California office. Our headquarters are based in beautiful San Francisco and our office is centrally located right off of Embarcadero Bart station. Easily accessible by all forms of public transportation.
