Build the first modern TradeGraph Data Authority

The opportunity:

Flexport is building the first modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. We are solving complex problems on a global scale and disrupting a multi-trillion dollar industry that has remained stubbornly unchanged.

Flexport is embarking on the journey to be a Tech Platform company, having high-quality and reliable data is a prerequisite. This is achieved by having a solid foundational data model and sound data quality management processes. TradeGraph Data Authority (TGDA) is the foundational step in this direction, responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the state of the Trade Network data. TGDA acts as a “digital twin” to the real-world status of the logistics and trade transactions supporting our internal applications such as carrier services such as Ocean, Air, Trucking, Air, Customs, Finance, and enabling use cases such as improving cost to serve, making fast decisions, driving optimizations such as improving container fill rates, improving delivery schedules, and saving millions in late fees.

We're looking for Software Engineers to develop products that are at the forefront of reshaping the entire logistics & supply chain industries. You’ll detangle a monolithic system and migrate it to microservice architecture.  You’ll work alongside self-starters interested in solving real-world problems and streamlining the inefficiencies in the complex global trade industry. You’ll have the opportunity to reshape an industry by creating a new operating system for global trade.

You will:

  • Be part of the TGDA engineering team to build new front-end experiences for our clients and backend services enabling some of our core features.
  • Work closely with product managers and design to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
  • Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally. We ship to production dozens of times per day.

You should have:

  • 2+ years of experience writing software, and a strong engineering background.
  • Experience as a generalist working on both the frontend and backend to provide the best solutions for our users.
  • A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
  • The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers, and engineers alike.
  • A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.
  • An aptitude for learning quickly.
  • Optional: experience in Java, Kotlin, Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, React, Modern Javascript, Node.js.

Our stack:

Our continuous releases are integrated with Buildkite and Github. On the frontend, we create our views with React, manage the flow of data with GraphQL/Relay, and test our application with Jest. On the backend, we’re in the process of decoupling our monolithic Rails app and introducing services using other languages, such as Java, Kotlin and Node.js. Our data is persisted in mostly Postgres, Mongodb and Redis. Our stack is hosted on AWS using Docker, and Kubernetes.
