Job Summary:              Assists the physician during procedures by anticipating the required supplies and instruments required to perform procedures.

 Essential Functions:

•    Sets up room to ensure all necessary supplies are available prior to initiation of cases
•    Anticipates physician needs and reacts accordingly
•    Assists physicians with procedures, according to physician preference and requests while preventing cross contamination. Assists with:
•    Cold biopsies
•    Hot biopsies
•    Polypectomies
•    Tattooing
•    Dilations, Balloon and Savary
•    Sclerotherapy
•    PEG Tube placement / replacement
•    Gold probe coagulation
•    Brushings
•    Bandings – esophageal and hemorrhoidal
•    Performs high level disinfection of scopes and related instruments according to current guidelines
•    Sends scopes out for repair when indicated; tracks repairs performed and date returned
•    Assists RN and CRNA
•    Sets up for oral suctioning
•    Assists with patient positioning
•    Assists with stretcher transport
•    Uses clinical documentation system
•    Troubleshoots technical problems utilizing the Customer Tech Support team from the clinical documentation system vendor
•    Enters patient demographic information, room personnel and scope # into the clinical documentation system prior to each case.  Participates in Time Out process.
•    Retrieves and reviews documents, as necessary
•    Enters / edits referring MD list
•    Maintains inventory PAR levels and stocks room

  • Tracks inventory levels
  • Receives and distributes supplies at time of delivery to appropriate locations
  • Cleans procedure rooms after each case; terminally cleans room as indicated after potential infectious cases
  • Enters / edits referring MD list
  • Follows universal precaution
  • Maintains all required Environment of Care logs
  • Documents in the medical record, as necessary
  • Ensures all entries are legible, timely and concise
  • Authenticates all entries
  • Assists with inventory depletions in ASC scheduling software
  • Completes patient follow up phone calls daily and documents in patient record
  • Corrects errors in electronic clinical documentation system as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists in PACU area, when time allows
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
  • Travel to different FMC work locations as requested

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Normal physical ability; able to sit and stand for long periods
  • Requires ability to frequently bend, walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods
  • The ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations, solve problems and make appropriate decisions
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed oriented individual with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Understanding of aseptic technique principles
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Current BLS
