Job Title:                    Materials Manager

Reports to:                 Charge Nurse Operating Room

Job Summary:  Manages surgery schedule ensuring appropriate instruments and supplies are available, and verifies the procedures being scheduled are Board-approved procedures and verifies the surgeon’s historical duration of surgery can be accommodated into the surgical schedule. **Experience in medical supply ordering, supply chain management.  Previous work in medical field in a clinical role a plus.**

 Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Coordinates necessary supplies and equipment for the scheduled procedure, including
    • Implants
    • Grafts
    • Special equipment scheduled with vendor
  • Maintains and updates physician’s preference cards
  • Creates and manages the surgical schedule
    • Calculates the time involved with each surgery and places in time frame for surgery schedule
    • Verifies all surgery is the allowable surgery for facility, including patient insurance
    • Cross references Intergy System with the Amkai system
    • Reviews all booking sheets from physicians office, to identify potential medical issues and adjusts the time in the surgical schedule accordingly
  • Materials Management
    • Negotiates best prices for supplies
    • Maintains adequate supplies in the operating / procedure rooms for immediate availability during procedures
    • Maintains facility par levels on stock items
    • Tracks all recalled items
    • Works with IOS for orders and maintains
  • Coordinates all required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by proper cleaning, care utilization and sterilization
    • Schedules all routine and preventive maintenance
    • Maintains logs on all bio medical equipment checks
    • Troubleshoots all equipment and schedules repairs
  • Oversees the sterile process function
    • Verifies daily log book and instrument tracking
    • Verifies all biological testing and maintain logs
  • Participates as a surgical team member or surgical assist when needed
  • Preceptors newly hired surgical technicians

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

  • Normal physical ability; able to sit or stand for long periods
  • Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Above average ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Occupational Exposure:

  • High risk exposure to blood borne pathogens and chemical hazards.

 Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent, college degree preferred 
  • One year active surgical scrub experience
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and other applications
  • Excellent telephone etiquette
  • 1 year minimum experience
