Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Medical Assistant with a professional attitude that can work in a fast paced office. Must have the ability to work well with the physician, fellow staff members and most importantly the patients by having great customer service skills. Must commit to full time, M-F 8am to 5pm. **Must be licensed Medical Assistant with a minimum of one year experience.

Completion of MA certification program required

 Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Completes the start of day and end of day processes o Unlocks cabinets and doors
    • Powers up equipment
    • Logs on all work stations in exam room and work area o Sets up medical supplies and equipment for the day
    • Maintains medical equipment; ensures all equipment is calibrated, cleaned, sterilized and charged
    • Collects red bags as necessary
    • Monitors and replaces sharps containers when needed o Stocks exam rooms
    • Cleans and sanitizes exam rooms
    • Empties HIPAA container into destruction bin
    • Logs off of all work stations including exam rooms o Organizes and maintains sample and supply closets o  Locks all cabinets
  • Properly room patients
    • Chart prep prior to visit o Takes and records vitals
    • Confirms information required by provider is present (labs, hospital records, )
    • Updates IEHR (allergies, medications, history, ) o Assists in following appointment schedule
    • Prepares exam room
    • Prepares patient for examination or treatment
    • Obtains informed consents and ABN as necessary o Notifies provider when patient is ready
  • Assists provider during examination and with treatment
    • Coordinates admissions with providers and facilities
    • Schedules patients for transfusions and notify patients
    • Assists provider with bone marrow biopsies, Obtains consents for procedure
    • Administers injections and records them in IEHR o Handles medication refill requests
    • Obtains prescription overrides and prior authorization when needed o Obtains consents
    • Prepares specimens and requisitions for lab courier
  • Properly enter orders as prescribed by Physician o Triages patient calls and needs
  • Enters charges for services rendered by the medical assistant
  • Addresses and handles all tasks, as well as monitoring provider's tasks o Returns messages
  • Notifies patients of test results and instructions from provider o Schedules follow up appointments
  • Enters referral information into the Practice Management System for referral tracking
  • Makes follow up calls to check on patients post procedure as indicated by provider or office protocol
  • Obtains ABN forms when appropriate
  • Obtains prescription overrides as needed o Properly clears Right fax when needed
  • Cover Medical Assistant in infusion suite when needed

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an organized and clean work area
  • Participates in maintenance of clinical supplies
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Physical requirements

            o  Able to stand or walk for long periods

            o Use of proper body mechanics

  • Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Above average ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

 Occupational Exposure:

  • High risk exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards

 Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Completion of MA certification program 
  • Strong team player
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience preferred
