Our Cataract Specialists Office in Tampa is seeking a full-time Ophthalmology Assistant.  will be responsible for following provider in each room. Will train! Modified full time employment - 40 or fewer hours per week but able to maintain benefits.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Completes the start of day processes
    • Logs on work station
    • Pulls charts for incoming correspondence, places it on appropriate provider’s desk in organized by priority
  • Properly rooms patients
    • Prepares patient for examination or treatment
    • Prepares necessary equipment needed for the visit
    • Confirms information required by provider is present (labs, surgery records, etc.) and necessary tests are performed and results available
    • Notifies provider when patient is ready and is available to assist
  • Assists provider during examination
    • Assists/Scribes for the doctors - anticipates provider needs
    • Documents any procedures performed
    • Sees that authorizations are obtained and insurance eligibility approved for procedures before they are performed
    • Obtains informed consent prior to procedures being performed
    • Writes out prescriptions, both for glasses and medications for provider’s signature
    • Completes drop schedules and/or instructions for patients
    • Prepare for and assist in surgical procedures in the office
  • Processes and assists with requests and paperwork
    • Completion of forms requested by patients
    • Delivers charts for dictation throughout the day
    • Assists with scanning when needed
  • Addresses and handles clinical tasks
  • Handles patient calls:
    • Notifies patients of test results and instructions from provider
    • Triages patient calls and needs
  • Distributes, reviews, and teaches patient education
  • Completes the end of day processes
    • Cleans and covers equipment
    • Collects red bags as necessary
    • Monitors and replaces sharps containers when needed
    • Stocks, cleans and sanitizes exam/work-up lanes
    • Empties HIPAA container into destruction bin (A-Scan & doctors)
    • Ensures all rooms are closed down
    • Logs off work station

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an organized and clean work area
  • Participates in maintenance of clinical supplies
  • Assists with pulling charts and filing when workload permits
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Physical requirements
    • Able to stand or walk for long periods and move around quickly in tight spaces
    • Use of proper body mechanics
  • Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Above average ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Occupational Exposure:

  • High risk exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong team player
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to refract and perform other testing as needed
