Overview

The Intern Accountant position will be part of the GL Accounting team which belongs to the Accounting family within the Finance department. The general ledger team within GitLab is responsible for managing and maintaining the company's financial records and accounts that are GAAP compliant. Here are some key aspects of the general ledger team:

  1. Recording Transactions: The team is responsible for recording all financial transactions, including sales, purchases, expenses, and revenues, in the general ledger accounts.
  2. Maintaining Accuracy: They ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data by reconciling accounts, verifying entries, and correcting any discrepancies.
  3. Preparing Financial Statements: The team prepares financial statements such as the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement based on the data in the general ledger.
  4. Compliance: They ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies in recording and reporting financial information.
  5. Month-end and Year-end Closing: The team performs month-end and year-end closing procedures, including adjusting entries, accruals, and closing temporary accounts to the retained earnings account.
  6. Internal Controls: They establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  7. Supporting Audits: The general ledger team provides support during internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations of accounts.
  8. Analysis and Reporting: They may also be involved in financial analysis, variance analysis, and providing insights into financial performance to support decision-making by management.

In essence, the general ledger team plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and providing financial information for management decision-making and external reporting purposes. We are looking for candidates available to start June 10, 2024, and offboard August 30, 2024.

About The Team

The GL Accountant team is made up of several team members, it is the team that has grown based on the needs of the Company that operates in a hyper growth environment. Our team constantly interacts with other internal and external teams to obtain the necessary support and details for the correct accounting. The team needs to be involved in different areas to be aware of the changes in the company and its correct accounting record, it is the team designed to work in various systems as required, with good communication. Our current challenge is a lack of automation of the processes we perform daily. We constantly strive to automate manual processes, while also iterating our documentation of policies, desktop procedures, etc. 

What You’ll Do

  1. With appropriate guidance, prepare financial statement account reconciliations with clear explanations of procedures and results
  2. Shadow team members of the Accounting as they perform their daily duties
  3. Assist with research, tie-out, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records
  4. Learn how to work as part of the Accounting team to analyze data, support the accuracy and completeness of financial records

  2. Financial Analysis: Under supervision, interns can conduct basic financial analysis such as calculating ratios, preparing simple financial statements, and assisting with budgeting processes.
  3. Research Support:  help in researching accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices, providing valuable insights to the team.
  4. Assistance with Audits: During audit preparations, interns can help gather necessary documents, reconcile accounts, and assist auditors in their tasks.
  5. Software Proficiency: If trained on accounting software, interns can help the team navigate and utilize these tools effectively, improving efficiency in financial operations.
  6. Documentation and Reporting: Interns can support in preparing financial reports, drafting memos, and documenting accounting procedures and policies.

Remote-Global

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.

$18$28 USD
