About the Role
The Health Economist  will lead and perform a variety of health economic analyses to demonstrate the impact of Hinge Health programs/products on members and clients and to support strategic decisions about company performance, growth and sustainability. The Health Economist works with stakeholders including external clients (e.g., health plan analysts and actuaries) and internal departments (e.g., client success, marketing and commercial teams) to design, conduct and manage high quality, rigorous claims based cost studies. The Health Economist communicates clearly in presentations,  reports and articles about analytic methods and results and easily engages with technical staff and laypersons. The Health Economist balances study rigor, time efficiency, and pragmatic application of study results for commercial purposes. 

The ideal candidate will have significant training in health economics, health service research, or policy research and a few years of work experience at a health plan or health system. Startup experience is a plus, but not a must. We are looking for an individual who can see the "big picture" but is also willing to roll up their sleeves to continuously improve every detail of our health economics studies.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Designs rigorous internal and external ROI cost analyses that align with Hinge Health commercial, product, or research goals
  • Designs and conducts health economics studies efficiently, including working with vendors on data acquisitions, leading data cleaning and transforming efforts, analyzing data, and interpreting results with commercial goals in mind.
  • Disseminates findings, including partnering with client success teams on client-facing presentations and developing research manuscript(s) for external publication.
  • Contributes to the design and conduct of new and ongoing clinical studies.
  • Effectively manages multiple ad hoc requests about MSK health care use and collaborates with product, operation, commercial, marketing and client success teams.
  • Stays up to date with the latest research in musculoskeletal and digital health, and keeps the clinical team informed of important updates.
  • WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Skilled in applying microeconometric methods, or conducting cost effective analysis to address health care cost questions.
  • Proficient in working with large commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid claims databases.
  • Working knowledge of medical claims, billing practices and health insurance requirements
  • Ability to lead and oversee several projects from start to finish within prescribed timeline, ensuring all success criteria are met
  • Works effectively with commercial, client success, data engineering and research teams on acquiring data, data cleaning, analyzing data, and communicating  results 
  • Has a bias for purposeful action and finds creative ways around problems.
  • Can articulate a vision to teams, collaborate with cross-org stakeholders, deliver feedback, and everything in between.
  • Efficient with their and other employees’ time
  • Takes ownership, is a role model for the team, and empowers them while holding them accountable.
