We shaped the earliest forms of ad tech, and we’re looking for the technical expertise to help shape its future. Our customers have unique problems that can only be solved at internet scale, and that’s where the technical skills of our team make a real difference.

Our exchange handles over 500 billion requests every day (for comparison Google serves an estimated 9 billion searches a day), all running in our own global data centers. Every member of our technology team has an enormous amount of autonomy in building and managing our systems to support and enable our growing level of scale. Through the transparency of our technology, dedication to innovation and integrity, and long-standing customer relationships, we lead through change.

What’s it like to work at Index?

We have more than 550 Indexers around the globe dedicated to building a safe and transparent marketplace that provides a trusted experience for consumers.

Index is an exciting and fast-paced place to work. We’re built on our values of change, support, learning and teaching, trust, and intention. We pride ourselves on our independence and openness, not only in our technology, but in our teams, too. Our diverse and inclusive culture celebrates how we can leverage our unique differences to help drive Index forward.

Our culture of success is truly supportive and collaborative. In working together across our teams, we’re continually investing in the people and technology to solve the industry’s most complex problems. As we extend the promise of ad tech to every channel, we’re looking for talented engineers to help advance Index and the industry forward.

Are you ready to join the programmatic evolution?

Index Exchange funds the open web. Content and journalism across the internet are funded through advertising, and we are the engine that helps to make that happen transparently, safely and efficiently. Handling hundreds of billions of auctions per day within milliseconds requires an intense understanding of the exchange and the ecosystem that we live in.

Our business is growing significantly every year and is poised to grow even faster. Our people and our platforms are the foundation and enablers of that growth. We are significantly expanding our technology teams and are looking for technologists with a passion for high-performance software development and a drive to deliver software products and platforms that enable and empower industries at a global scale.

Index’s scale spans the globe, our transactions happen 24x7 in our global data centers, and every second that passes millions of requests are evaluated across our exchange. In order to achieve our mission, global efficiency and reliability are absolutely key, as every millisecond quite literally counts in our business.

About The Role:

As a Technical Program Manager at Index, you’ll lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex software initiatives that span teams, systems, and stakeholders. You’ll guide programs from inception to completion—aligning work to objectives, managing dependencies and risks, and driving execution across the finish line.

You’ll partner closely with Engineering, Product, and other cross-functional teams to scope initiatives, sequence work, and remove blockers. You’ll help ensure roadmaps stay current, work is clearly visible and actionable, and delivery plans remain aligned to intent. You’ll bring technical fluency, organizational clarity, and a delivery-first mindset to everything you do.

We’re looking for a TPM who is execution-oriented and systems-aware—someone who enjoys solving coordination puzzles, optimizing how teams work, and enabling others to move faster. You bring curiosity and clarity to delivery, and help shape the systems, tools, and practices that drive high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Here’s What You’ll be Doing:

  • Drive Program Delivery: Lead the planning and execution of large-scale software programs, ensuring alignment across teams and delivering on time, with quality and clarity.
  • Clarify Scope and Maintain Planning Artifacts: Partner with Product and Engineering to define clear deliverables, requirements, and milestones. Help maintain the roadmap, portfolio backlog, and team-level PI plans to support coordinated, execution-ready plans across teams.
  • Own Cross-Team Coordination: Work across teams and functions to manage dependencies, mitigate risks, and ensure efficient handoffs.
  • Understand Technical Context: Engage in technical discussions, understand architectural decisions and trade-offs, and help guide delivery sequencing and risk evaluation.
  • Track and Communicate Progress: Maintain clear visibility into plans, timelines, and blockers using Jira and Confluence, and tailor updates for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Facilitate Planning: Lead and support planning activities to define goals, align on outcomes and dependencies, and map a clear path to delivery.
  • Champion Quality-First Delivery: Help teams deliver resilient, performant, and well-scoped software by emphasizing up-front clarity, risk management, and testable outcomes.
  • Coach and Enable Teams: Support teams in leveling up their planning, delivery hygiene, and operational maturity. Provide coaching and hands-on support around backlog health and organization, metrics usage, and risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to Process and Tooling Evolution: Identify gaps in planning and delivery workflows and contribute to tooling, documentation, and workflow improvements. Drive alignment across teams to SDLC standards and best practices while allowing for team-specific flexibility where appropriate.
  • Connect Execution to Strategic Objectives: Ensure programs and planning artifacts are clearly linked to strategic goals and KPIs, enabling meaningful prioritization, visibility, and outcome tracking.

Here's What You Need:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical program or delivery management roles, ideally within high-scale software environments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-team software initiatives, with experience coordinating across Engineering, Product, and Operations
  • Strong technical acumen—you can follow technical discussions, understand system-level impact, and speak credibly with engineers
  • Practical experience with Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.), and an understanding of how to tailor practices to team context without compromising alignment across programs and company-wide initiatives
  • Experience working with a mix of cloud and on-premise infrastructure, including data centers and distributed systems
  • Proven ability to coach and influence teams to adopt improved delivery practices and planning workflows
  • Experience contributing to process documentation, tooling, and frameworks that improve planning and delivery
  • Proficiency with Jira and Confluence, including hands-on experience with Jira administration, workflow customization, and reporting to optimize team productivity
  • Clear and confident communication, with the ability to adjust messaging for developers, senior leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Organized and outcome-oriented, with a track record of delivering complex projects and managing competing priorities
  • Experience in AdTech is helpful but not required—an interest in learning the nuances of programmatic advertising and exchange technology is key
  • High integrity, accountability, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
