About the role 

This is a fully remote role, we will consider applicants based in North America, South America and EMEA and APAC. 
Our Engineering team is having a blast while delivering the most sophisticated crypto-trading platform and bank out there. Help us continue to define and lead the industry. As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Kraken, you'll be tasked with keeping one of the fastest growing companies in the world up and available in a 24/7 environment. Kraken is growing at an extremely rapid pace along with the entire cryptocurrency industry, and if you like hard challenges and learning, look no further as this is the role for you!

Responsibilities

  • Take a relentless approach on keeping availability at Kraken as high as possible (identifying bottlenecks before they arise)
  • Deploy and maintain production / non-production services
  • Enable software engineers to deploy their services rapidly and securely
  • Oncall rotation with a focus on toil identification and reduction
  • Requirements

  • 3 to 5+ years in a DevOps role (DevOps, SRE, etc)
  • 3 to 5+ years experience in managing resources of a major Public Cloud Provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Battle-hardened experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting and knowledge of best practices in the area
  • Experience in modern CI/CD systems (Gitlab CI, ArgoCD, Flux)
  • Experience benchmarking applications and identifying bottlenecks
  • Experience with distributed systems and technologies (gRPC, Kafka, NoSQL, SQL, Redis, ...)
  • Confidence in writing scripts using at least one of the industry standard scripting/programming languages (Bash, Python or Golang)
  • Confidence in writing desired state configuration (eg: HCL2, K8s YAML)
  • Confidence in writing configuration templates in Terraform, Helm and/or Kustomize
  • Solid practical experience with Terraform
  • Security first approach

  • Nice to haves

  • Passion for open-source and contributing back to the community
  • Experience in working with the Hashistack (Terraform, Vault, Packer, Nomad, Consul)
  • Experience in Argo Workflows
  • Software Engineering background (Golang, Rust)
